Im not sure how good they will work having carbide balls in a alloy gear. As long as your slipper is set right and your brakes are set correctly you should be fine with stock gears.

I picked up a B44.1 a week or so ago, and finally hit the track with it this weekend. I had it setup the same as my son's B44.1, even electronics are similiar, only major difference's are:
Mine: V2's with BB springs
Sons: AE Big Bores
Mine: Tekin 13.5 motor
Sons: Tekin 8.5 motor
Craziest thing...I put about 3 packs through each one yesterday (spent about 6 hours at the track yesterday just messing around) and on average I was consistently .5-.75 seconds a lap faster with my 13.5 vs my sons 8.5!!
I never would have guessed that the 13.5 would have been so much faster and easier to drive consistently, in a 4mod buggy!! The 8.5 is entirely too much power, so much so that it's hard to drive it smooth! Although there was a few times where the 13.5 didnt give me the grunt that I needed when I got off my line...so thinking a 10.5 or 11.5 might be the perfect motor for our track.

racers that run 17.5 will "saw" or use way more trigger , so when they use a real mod motor they always have issues with over driving dealing with the extra power .
Tip
Practice more with the 8.5 and only try to use the very tip of your trigger finger on the throttle.
Don't choke the trigger as that will only make you less smooth on power.

Funny you say all of that....because the 8.5 car is the only 4mod i've driven/practiced/raced with in the last several months...I loved driving that car so much I bought one of my own lol. I have an 8.5 on order, but had this 13.5 laying here and couldn't wait for the 8.5 lol. Yesterday was first day driving the 13.5 4mod, and it was MUCH faster laptime wise (smoother) the 8.5 is faster point to point, but also MUCH harder to keep it on my line.
I also DO drive with the very tip of my finger when I drive the 8.5 car...it's my 9 year old son's car and we have the trigger modded with foam/heat shrink so it fits his finger perfectly....I can only get about half of my finger nail in his trigger lolol.
I do consider myself fairly smooth with the trigger....I learned a long time ago that rolling on/off the trigger is very important to being smooth...the lower the turn motor, the more important it is to roll on/off the gas. higher turn motors it doesnt seem to have as much influence.

More motor is not easier to drive , but is faster ...
Practice will smooths things out.
13.5 is not fast enough to compete against someone who is using more motor & smooth on the gas ,unless ?
You are on a very small indoor layout .
Then a 13.5 motor will be good against a 7.5 or 8.5 motor .

Brake is preference. I set mine to just barely skid at full trigger throw.

Adjust the slipper so it is very loose and even miss's the jumps .
Then tighten it 1/2 turn after a few laps , repeat until it is just right clearing the jumps.
Remember , for your best slipper performance adjust so it is loose as possible and still gets the job done on the track .

At my local track a lot of guys love 13.5 in their B44
One of the fastest guys at my track runs a 6.5 but he says that he prefer to turn down his EPA to 60% with it.

6" is plenty, by then you should be squared up around the corner and ready for the jump a few feet is way to much slip and wouldn't allow for any constancy. If you car is doing donuts with 6" of slip its not because the slipper is to tight, its driver error and lack of throttle control.

If I hammer the the throttle at a stand still it will slip about 4'' then it really starts to grab and then launches.
Rolling on the throttle it will perform as if it is not slipping. Yet if I hammer it rolling it really wont slip as much. The kit is moving and it wont take as many inches before it grabs.
You want the sipper to make the kit grab before the tires light up and spin out. 12'' is about the make you would want in any condition. 12'' is really good on dusty tracks but throttle input is the key no matter how you set it.
