I'm going try dual shorties in my truck with a Pro4hd 4300.
It moves a lot of weight to the back.

Your wires look like they are really close to your spur gear.

1. If you can put together a decent-sized lego set, you can build this truck successfully. Do NOT worry about the build. The instructions are so clear, and the bags are packed so nice, a kid can build it (seriously).

2. Get good batteries, and get 6000+ mAh. I went with lower, cheaper batteries, and it was just a waste of my money. With those, plus the new batteris I have, I coulda bought the most expensive packs the first time and spend the same...don't make the same mistake I made. I run these now and I'm super happy: http://www.smc-racing.net/index.php?...product_id=115 (currently out of stock, but there are 2 other nearly identical packs from other brands at the same price point, check my posts on this thread, on one I posted links to all 3.)

3. The HW setup is awesome. I suggest 4700, only cause that's what I have and it rips.

I'll be honest with you, I wish I would have spent the extra $150 and went RX8+4300HD tekin setup. Once you're out there, you want the only limiting factor to be you. Once you get better, you'll want the best, so there's really no reason (other than money) to not get the best right away.

Hope this helps.

Thanks for the replies, I love Tekin and have it in my MBX6ECO but since I havent soldered anything or wired before I figured I would start with a good but lower priced set. I may eventually end up with the Tekin but I guess I am afraid of buring out an expensive motor if I mess it up.

I will try and order it next paycheck from Tower since I can use the $50 off and should hopefully start the build whenever they get it in stock and ship it to me. I cant wait to try it out

I understand completely, Tekin is a very good product but it is spendy. HobbyWing is a great product for half the price. Good luck and if you have any questions you know where to go!

I've been changing fluids about once a month. Haven't had to replace anything in the diffs yet.

So I just used the military discount and ordered my SCT410.. What upgrades are a must right out the box? I was looking at the option parts and was planning on getting the Air guards, Steel Spur,Carbon Fiber shock towers, and the 12mm alum hex's for my tires.. Any other suggestions?

Stiffer Springs especially for the rear, possibly the 1.3mm x 8 hole pistons.

If you think you will need more snap, you could go with the other lightweight driveline components to counteract the steel spur. I run the steel spur personally and it does feel good however punchwise.

Must upgrades are servo horn (25t hot bodies), 12mm alum hex's of course and if your not afraid of a little dremel work the serpent hard servo saver spring works wonders with a good servo (just have to increase the ID on the al nut end). The stock saver spring is too weak. And of course springs as Cain mentions. Your choice on springs I buy what is locally available so went with kyosho, but had some xray progressives to try as well.

Not sure if you followed any of the posts discussing springs, etc. But assuming you can't get the Tekno springs in the weights mentioned, Hot Bodies springs fit and are a bit shorter so you can get even lower ride heights.

Now there is an interesting question not related to the motor/ESC flavor of the day!

You guys call it what you want, but I ran 4wd SCT for the last +3 years with an all carbon fiber Hyper10, and keeping the diff fluid in the gear boxes was typically a biweekly thing. I sold all my diff fluids and switched to grease, and ran the last +1 year with never having to add any...Loved the neutral feel, and week to week consistancy. I ran a little lighter stuff in the front and rear, and a little heavier in the main diff. When a diff leaks, the fluid goes into one of the outer bearings and can cause it to slow on that side negating traction and other wierd things.

Now since I sold that truck and switched to the Tekno, I kept with my thinking. I figured the Tekno would have better tolerances and such, but I didn't have any diff fluids anymore, and didn't feel like buying any, nor goofing around with them...Sorry manufacuturer's...(bet if this gets out prices drop on diff fluid) And I once again put grease in the diffs...Well, the trucks worst finish to date is 2nd place, and its very consistant.

Any update on spring kit options for these?

I read on another site that the SC10 4x4 springs are 65mm and 74mm, in which case they'd work, although one guy on here said they were too long, so I don't know what to think.

Tekno springs are 65-70mm and 80-85mm.

I prefer the longest springs that work as I feel they keep the shaft straighter and less likely to cause oring leaks, but experimenting with single Tekno springs looks pricy. Sucks as I had both spring kits earlier but sold it with my sc10.

I think you're the second guy on this thread who goes this route. It's interesting to consider.

The negative to this, which was pointed out earlier, is that you're removing a tuning option when you go this route. A quick change to thinner rear diff fluid when going from high traction to lower traction can really lock the rear of the truck in.

doesn't one of the big companies make diff grease that has different ratings etc? I seem to remember that being a popular option for some with the SC10 4x4 since its diffs didn't seal that good?
