I've setup and driven a 44.1 with big bore and 44.2 back to back and they're pretty close, but the 44.2 was significantly better everywhere on the track--definitely an advantage.
Im doing this right now. I am still able to get top 2 consistant, but its clear they have advatage. Im waiting for the avid chassis.

Are you saying the turn marshall and the driver are the same person?. At 1:25in the video he threw the wrecked car down without as much as looking to see if there was oncoming traffic. There was as you know.

I couldn't see any differences that could be solely attributed to a gear vs ball diff.

Also at 1:14-1:16 the AE car seems to be spinning almost out of control going down the straight.

That's the .2. I assume he got squirrelly from something else, but he was slinging his rear around every corner. That's great for a drift competition, not so much for racing. Hence my comment about that vid not being a great selling point for the .2.

Locally we only have 6 wheelers that race regularly, 1 Durango & 5 .1's. 3 of the .1's have bb's (mine being one of them). Until I see a marked difference with a .2, I don't see me spending $150+/- to up grade.

I've had both the .1 and .2. I like my cars to be very aggressive and have LOTS of steering.

The .1 is more aggressive in turns and loves to dive into corners
the .2 isn't as aggressive and at times can feel "lazy" in tight turns.

If I were to go back to an AE car, id stick with a .1, add the VTS and big bores and call it a day.

I noticed that to but there are a lot of things that could be responsible for that and not just the .1 vs .2 or ball vs gear diff IMHO.

UN4
You did'nt see ?
C-Onnn .....

JMO
Can see
More side traction on the sharp turns ....

Coming out of the turn's like the 180's ?
Better acceleration , less wheel spin, car does not step out coming out and need counter steer to correct...

The Xray looked like it had a carpet setup. It was VERY loose, and the driver wasn't fast enough to keep up with it. Dial it back the aggressiveness just a little and he would have wiped the floor with all of you. I've noticed that they have even more rotation that my .1 at my home tracks.

I have to agree with everyone else that the .2 is lazier in the corners, but that's a part of what makes it so much easier to drive. That Xray looks like fun...if only parts weren't so expensive.

FWIW, parts for the xray aren't that expensive, they're on par for how much the kit costs.

Sure, you don't get two arms per pack, but you also don't break much either...

...except towers, tranny cases, & satellite/sun gears

But, hugely in their favor, X-ray came out with a FREE patch kit to handle those issues. I haven't seen AE, Losi, or anyone else step up to the plate like that.

Once the xb2 comes out I'm going to be massively tempted to jump ship for X-ray.

I haven't broken my tower, but my kit was built with the upgrade kit, and how has the diggity towers. However, two other people I run with are running the 1st batch gears and they have not gone through them. Really, as long as it's built properly and not driven like an idiot, the car is amazingly reliable.

Default the youtube video...

From what I could tell, the pink car was driven by someone who was comfortable with their car. The other two vehicles, the drivers looked nervous, and the cars looked like they had a setup with aggressive steering.

Other than that, there would be no way to tell which car had what diff type in them if you didn't already know.

I can only speak on behalf of the 44.1 and 44.2 from AE, but they didn't have any issues aside from the weak kit ballcups; so there was no need to have a free "patch" type kit. Also Xray can do things like that because they likely sell 1/100th the volume of kits AE does. Also, if you have any bad or defective parts in your kit, just dial up AE and scan your receipt and they'll take care of you.

Great pointers to look at on the whining..I will do another inspection tonight and tear down the motor mount and also check the pinion gear mesh.
