So it's better to get the Mylaps HYBRID transponder

I have 6x mrt transponders, why, because I like the fact that I had one number for each vehicle and was able to shorten the leads to fit the length I wanted.

It wasn't that mrt was a better signal but it made it convenient. I still have a few older amb transponders that i would lend out to anyone who needed one.

This weekend a local track upgraded it system and I purchased two of the newest mylap transponders. I can't wait until mrt reproduces a new product to work with the new decoder so I can dump this piece of shit mylap transponder from my car. First off, they use the thinnest gauge but least flexible three wire I've ever come across. The wires are seal to the transponder itself so you have to shorten the wire from the plug side. Good luck if you make a mistake or want to switch one to another car. And finally, both my buddy and I each had binding problems with our radios during qualifiers. Only to realize, if you unplugged the teansponder the binding worked perfectly, then plug in the transponder? Only happened to me once but my buddy using a new futaba had this problem all day?

As a consumer, I see zero value in the new mylaps transponders. Unfortunately, I had no choice, worst $190.00 I ever spent. Only good thing is I supportted my local hobby shop. And the offer from mylaps to trade in your mrt is a joke... I'd rather keep them in my box as a reminder of what its like as a consumer to have the flexibility to purchase what the consumer wants versus being forced to purchase something that the consumers don't want.

I had a random thought today, alternative theory on the new white wire, being that it's actually programing access for the transponder, allowing direct ability for MyLaps to change the car ID function in house, and giving them a faster ability to send out requested custom numbers...


And yeah, on my new RC4 with the third wire it is rather stiff, actually I could swear the wire is a bit shorter than those that came on my hybrids, but I can't compare because I shortened all the wires on my hybrids.

So by that your saying you can't wait to spend more money on a clone that may or may not work with future MyLaps decoders? Do those things have a money back guarantee, or a least disclaimer?

MRT do not copy your number for anyone else other than you, as to MyLaps system, it's all very nice but I suspect the way they have now done it comes down to how your race software uses that new sub number.

I like the idea of one number myself, the Pure RC4 I ordered is a sub number off my original Hybrid.

Two things bug me with transponders, one if everyone lends them to friends etc, then somewhere along the way you get timing issues cause that number stayed in the system, and two is I have yet to be able to test my new RC4 cause it keep raining here...

The way the software will work with the 8th digit is it will see PT as a totally different number assigned to that particular class.

Best way to handle PT's used by tracks as "loaners" is assigning it as a house transponder, same as a rechargeable. I'm sure all race management software has this ability. Of course like you said if a racer loans another racer a PT that's where the conflict can/has happened!

You cannot put the new RC4 transponders into the bind port for power. Since it is a 3 wire cord, it works as a bind plug causing the receiver to not work until you unplug it. I put mine in the 3rd channel on my futaba receiver to avoid this issue. The only way to possibly avoid the issue and use the bind port, would be to remove the white wire at the plug, or use the pigtail they give you and plug it directly into your battery. So you would wire it up same way when adding a external bec when attaching to the battery.

I'll be curious to see how well the various softwares handles the sub number, I know RCM Ultimate has had the sub number function in there some time, so I'm keen to test it with my primary and sub 1 number transponder and see if it does recognize them properly.

Actually RCM has the temp and voltage shown in the transponder log live window you can bring up, but I tested it with a hybrid the day I updated our decoder, and got nothing come up, so I'm also wondering if the hybrids do actually have that info or if something in the race software is not fully working yet.

MyLaps USA has told me that the Hybrid does have the temp/volts. I don't have a Hybrid but do have a RC4 Pure.
