It was binding enough to actually lock the wheel up. I was able to muscle the plastic back to its normal shape, well close to it at least. I've never had any wheel do this before and it's obviously not normal. Has anyone had this happen to them? Are these wheels just crap?
I had a race Sat and I put on a new set of Bar Codes on DE racing wheels, this morning I noticed one of the wheels is bent. Can't remember hitting any thing hard. I don't remember any thing out of the ordinary. Sure hope DE hasn't started using cheaper materials.

Does any body know of any other company that makes sc wheels with 17mm hexes?

Yea I'm worried about that too, although I've never used DE wheels before. If it happened to an old set of wheels, I wouldn't really care but my wheels and tires are brand new.

We're looking into the stub axles and we have a couple questions for anyone that has broken one:

Are you running aluminum hexes?
What brand of wheel are you running?

We're thinking there is a combination of things that are causing breakages. Almost all of the breaks we've seen have a few things in common: Aluminum hexes, DE wheels, and possibly loose wheel nuts (or wheel nuts that aren't tight enough).

We're not saying anyone or anything is at fault, we're just trying to collect data so we can determine what action to take, if any. We had one team member break a couple, then we tightened the wheel nuts and there hasn't been an issue since. The wheel nuts have to be VERY tight.

Here's a video from the 4th and final qualifier.

She won this one as well, setting the fastest lap of the day and qualifying in 2nd position for the finals

Not bad for a girl who started running r/c cars 4 months ago

+ YouTube Video

Tekno, Please do not take any offense to my statement but I've been running the SCTE since it came out and have never broken a stub axle. I've run every brand wheel with stock hexes, tlr hexes, with not one broken. I'm sure you guys will come up with a great solution (I've not broken one yet) if there is an issue.

I have three races, and a few practice days on mine. And have not broke anything. Very tough truck, sounds like theres some isolated issues with the axles. I dont think this is a problem.

No broken axles here. I'm running

-AE sc104x4 hexes that have been shaved down a bit to get the pin to sit flush in the hex.
-Jconcepts Hazard Wheels
-DE Racing Trinidad Wheels
-Tight wheel nuts

i've broke one......snapped flush with hex
i am running the stock plastic hexes, hazard rims (losi scte offset). and i tighten my nuts TIGHT. they are digging into the rim. def not loose!!!......so for me, all the common things your seeing, mine are none of they above (ie. aluminum hexes/DE wheels/loose nuts)
