Default need advice on LRP esc's

I have a couple older LRP esc's that have issues and was hoping it may be a simple fix. Both esc's have the exact same issue. One is the Sphere Comp and the other a Sphere Comp TC Spec. Both appear to be in good condition and I installed a new LRP wiring kit on both recently.

The problem with both is that they run great for the first 5 or so minutes. After that, they start to cog fairly bad. Doesn't matter what speed either. They just start twitching and cogging all of a sudden. Sometimes they will start running fine again on their own after a few minutes of cogging and other times it just gets so annoying that I stop running.

I've tried a bunch of different motor, sensor wires, receivers, even tried them in different vehicles and it's always the same thing. I really like the way these things run (when they're running correctly) and am hoping there may be something simple to check out before giving up on them.

Thanks in advance for any input!

Forgot to mention, neither of them get warm in the least. They're actually no warmer than whatever the outside air temp is. Same with my other Sphere Comp that works correctly. I'll run a whole 6000mah pack through it and it's barely even warm to the touch afterwards. No fan either.

I run anywhere from 8.5-13.5 motors on these esc's along with 2S lipo.

Have you tried calling Team Associated? They have a person dedicated to esc questions and he is very helpful. Give that a shot. Do these all have the same problem with the same reciever and servo? Maybe the issue lies there instead of in the esc.

What type of radio are you using? I had some issues for awhile while using an m11x. I was always told back in the day to ramp the throttle epa all the way to 140%, and then start the esc setup. This caused an issue as the esc couldnt find the neutral setting. The esc would stutter under hard acceleration and sometimes would not even allow any throttle inputs. After numerous emails to AE we figured this out. The throttle epa must be set at 100% before starting the setup procedure. Not saying this is your issue but its worth a shot.

Thanks for the tip. I'll give it a try. I'm using a Futaba 3PM and the throttle EPA is set at 120%. I'll try to re-calibrate them with the radio at 100% instead and see what happens.

I was a little off on my esc models. After looking again, the two that have issues are the Sphere Comp. I also have a Sphere Comp TC Spec and that one works perfectly. All running off the same radio. Perhaps the EPA setting is exclusive to just the Comp and not the TC Spec?

Ah...sphere. I had the above issues with the SXX series. I would still try to reset it and go from there. As far as contacting lrp about the issues, i am not sure if they are servicing the sphere series anymore. You may just have to upgrade to newer sxx or flow model. They may be able to give you some hints though. Call AE and you press a number for LRP help, there are a couple really knowledgeable guys that work back there.
