Depending on the turnout, I may run my lowly Orion in 17.5 Wednesday.

We shall see...

Maybe a little, but to be frank I think my driving and car setup improved more than any impact the motor had.

Does this mean, even though most of us are not ROAR members (and I'm not even sure of the track's ROAR status) that we will be enforcing all of the other ROAR rules rules going forward? Who's running a "blinky" ESC that's not on the ROAR approved list? How many other 17.5 motors are being used that were never ever on ROAR's approved list? Is there a scale at the shop to check weights? This is club racing folks, so where do we stop with this?

Frankly in the 17.5 classes it's more about clean, consistent and tight lines than motor anyway? Regardless of the ruling by track management the one thing I don't want to hear from my competitors that I'm cheating. Up until yesterday's announcement those motors were ROAR legal and the outcomes of all races up to that point should not be in question.

That said, the Orion's will go back in the buggy & sc tonight. I'll run the D3.5 in the ST since we only run that mod anyway.

So who's up for a class action suit against Trinity for false labeling of a product?
I think the question about whether or not we should follow ROAR guidelines needs to be answered as well. Myself, I usually check the status of anything I buy to see if it’s on the ROAR approval list before I buy it. Like you I don’t want to hear “you’re cheating” when I’m club racing so why give people the opportunity to say it? Again, that’s just me.

Having said that, I’d be fine racing against people who have this motor and bought it because it was ROAR approved when they bought it. At this point I think telling your faithful club racers they have to buy a new motor because ROAR yanked it’s approval of the motor would be a bad idea. I say let them use it, in six months there will be a new flavor of the month out anyway.

And by the way, this isn’t club racing, this is Wednesday Worlds!!!!

➕1000000000 what's the policy were gonna follow? I think for club racing we should be able to use whatever as long as its a 17.5 and your esc is blinking. For trophy races I think we should tech and should follow roar specs since it counts a lot more. That's my 2 cents but its up to John... Now if we don't follow roar rules than my trackstars are going back in.

Honestly I bought the motor bc I herd good things about it I'm not any faster then when I was running my thunder power 17.5... As for having to buy a new motor after buying the d3.5 a few weeks ago is insane I don't make the kind of money to be spending it on another motor it needs to be up to track owners to decide if its ok to use these motors... Thats all I have to say

Like I've said in the past.. ROAR? How many races have you been in where you need to be a ROAR member? I've been racing pretty steady now for 2 years and raced in a fair share of tracks all over. None of these trophy races are following ROAR specs or even care about ROAR. I raced the ROAR regionals last year and got 2nd place in a 17.5 A main SCT race. You think anybody thought to tech my truck? Or even tech Proctors truck who won? The rules are constantly changing, ROAR is dying out

Agree wholeheartedly.

But God forbid you get a podium position, even in a club race, running one of these things now. The guy 7 laps down from the TQ in qualifying who D.N.F.'d the B-Main will be screaming that everone else cheats and he should be declared the winner.

And this just won't be an RCHR issue. Would I run a D3.5 @ RCE this weekend?

I currently have the revtech 17.5. It's a great motor and fast. It's rated at 3300kv. The trinity d3.5 is supposedely better, as evidenced by the 3700kv rating. Also, part of the reason why the d3.5 is now illegal.

My 7.5 is rated at 7150kv, but you know what!?!?! No one cares!

Come to mod, we don't have these headaches.

If you go by kv the revtech would also be illegal, as the kv for a 17.5 would be around 2200kv. So any motor based on the 3.5 or revtech would be illegal as well.

Careful! The Revtech is also made by Trinity. ROAR may just be getting started

I don't place a lot of stock in no-load RPM but considering everyone else seems to, here goes.

According to the Trinity website the D3.5 is 3500 kV and the Revtech is 3000 kV. Orion is 2280kV.

Having run both the D3.5 and Orion in both my buggy and short course I can attest that with identical gearing neither vehicle was 53.5% faster as one would calculate just looking at the kV numbers.
