When Neal chimes in, could you list your top five most powerful engines in order. Also have you done any stroker .21's? Seems the quality of the .21's are better then the bigger ones, so a stroked .21 should be best of both worlds?

Had a chance to run the Proto 7 today! Haven't really opened her up yet that much but initial break in was smooth and I can already tell this thing is going to run like a scalded ape... This thing purrs like a kitten at idle! CRE=awesome!

On the dirt the 28-7 is the fastest, followed by the ROMA and very closely followed by the Bonito...The 28XZ is also quite fast, more grunt then the Roma a little less RPM.....In the end tho the Bonito is simply a badass screamer of a engine that has power closer to the big engines then any other .21, so its hard to choose against it when all things considered ........it is a real thoroughbred ..and if you looking for wide open dune running they all can deliver what you are after...... Bonito would run stock gearing, Roma would run +1 and the 28-7 will run +2......... on high bite we sometimes see issues with clutch slip on the geared up 28's...so even if they offer more power, we do lose more of that power thru the clutch then we do a .21 on stock gearing...... All the engines listed will deliver the wow factor... tho acoustically the Bonito is the most musical, it absolutely sings on top end.... the 28-7 also wails really good, the Roma and 28XZ are milder sounding for some reason.... The Clocked Bonito just shrieks, guaranteed to put a smile on your face......considering its durability and overall performance I have to favor the Bonito ....its power is beyond what you would expect from a .21, massive bottom end with a crazy ass top end...

What, no mention of the 25 XZ?? Lol. On our surfaces it's the hardest hitting mid/topend engine i have from you, IMO. Yes the bonito revs up endlessly, but its a much more controlled rev. The OS wheelies toward the end of the straight like its ready to mount someone's truggy.
Then my ring & pinion takes a poop.

Thanks for the information Neal, that was exactly the type of answer I was searching for. You pretty much sold me on the bonito. How about any of these "Frankenstein" engines that can compete with the bonito or better, or something in the works? I been out of the game to long, I remember back in the day people were saying this certain jp was the fastest .21, forget the exact name but it had a purple head, you know the name?

the last hybrid we built was using a VZB piston/sleeve in a XZB long stroke..making it a .23....It ran like a beast, but still doesn't match the Bonito......The Bonito is just in a class of its own....has to be seen to be believed......It is IMO the strongest, fastest most wicked offroad .21 on the market...

Bonito must be something wicked, being in a job like yours you must have seen just about every .21 worth anything and it rolls on all of them. Here in a few months I'll be getting one then I'm sure =) just need to figure if I want a buggy or a truggy. Do you think a 9 or higher port slreve would further up the modded bonito's power?

The Clocked Bonito is a ridiculous engine. At first I thought it would be a little much for my truggy and spin the wheels but nope! M2C Clutch 1.0 springs and puts power down smoothly, very controllable and absolutely wicked fast. I feel like its worth double the price. Anyone who is considering buying one, buy one! You will not regret it!
