I would run the VTX10R as it fits better in the 4wd buggy as it doesn't have the extra cap with wires

extra cap with wires? I think you mean the Black Edition, which both the 10 and 10r have the 'remote' cap board.

yes the VTX10R-BE has the bigger cap, so that's why I like to run the red VTX10R in my 4wd buggy

I do not have the progauge at the moment and everything seems to be fine except for NO reverse.
Thanks!
From the manual

CHANGE PROFILE WITHOUT A ProGauge
1. Connect a proper/charged battery pack to the ESC.
2. Power on transmitter.
3. Press and hold the red power button on the V-PORT for three seconds.
(Followed by beep tone, F/N LEDs on the V-PORT will be indicated as the image shown at right)
4. Press the corresponding number of time of the desired profile (refer to TABLE.1 below) on the red power button
on the V-PORT. For example, press 5 times if you wish to load profile 5. The F/R LEDs will be indicated on
every button press.
5. Release the power button for 3 seconds. The VTX ESC will save the profile number and F/R LEDs will be
flashing the number of time of the corresponding profile that it was saved.
6. The VTX ESC will then run an auto system reset. The F/R LEDs will be flashing the corresponding profile number
every time after beeping of system initialization.

Practice mode is PROFILE 8 This is the only profile that includes reverse

Hope that helps.

MaplestreetRC, welp, only problem is I'm unable to locate my manual. I've got it somewhere, just like I have the progauge somewhere, but, when my wife moves my stuff, "somewhere" is an abyss.

But, thanks so much for your reply. W/out the chart/table etc. I'm still not able to get there.... *sigh*

You're very welcome, but I think you can get there without the manual.

Practice mode is profile 8.

So just do steps 1-3 then push the button 8 times, that puts you on profile 8, then do step 5 and 6 and your'e there.

Here is his buggy...which is the same as I will be getting. You can see there isn't a great place to put the remote caps, good enough reason for me to go with the red version too.

Yes, it is practice mode.

It's also a way to get reverse without a progauge, which was his question.

Well, given all the 8th scale vehicles you have in you sig, I would go with the VTX8 because if you wind up not liking 4x4SCT you could throw that in any of your electric 8th scales (if you have any) with no issues.

If that's not a concern then the VTX10-R (RED Or BLACK edition) is a suitable and less expensive option for 4x4 Short course trucks. You can run any turn 540 motor and up to a 4.5T 550 motor.
