SC10 4x4 Thread
Good writeup krio.
I was curious after I posted that thinking I never have heard the actual mechanics of it so I asked Randy (Tekin). Here is his brief explanation...
It's not rpm controlled. It's a certain amount of time spent each time neutral to throttle is applied. Figure first 5 to 8 feet of car travel.

Hey guys... I had my 4x4 on the shelf during the summer season but now that winters here ive got it up and running. Got the diff problem fixed and did some mods to the truck. The 8mm rear camber mod, weight to the chassis. M2C Rear hinge pin plate, and the locking front clutch from exotek. Wanted everyones thoughts on the locking clutch.. Its really made the truck pull hard and really improved the breaking power as well. Only downfall is its making the belt skip a couple teeth on real hard breaking at the end of the straitaway. Any opinions on this mod?? I think the drive and breaking is too much of a good asset to worry about the belt...
Also I need to go to the wider wheels, get some more stability out of the truck... does it help all that much? I know all the losi guys I'm running against all have them and those losi SCTE's just looke easier to drive, my trucks just as fast when im hitting my marks tho.

You've got the right parts. If the belt skips a little, not a huge deal. If you want, you can tighten the pulleys up a bit but that will be a balancing act between belt too tight with too much drag in the drive line (inherent to belt drive) but not skipping and belt just right how you have it now and skipping. Just gotta play with it. I think the exo locker hub or the center diff is the way to go, but there's give and take to everything.
Don't need overdrive with the exo locker or center diff.
+3mm wheels are a must have.

Mods... depends on if you are running indoor or outdoor. I'm guessing indoor.
Not really much past what you have. Set the M2C at 3.5° toe in.
Add lead weight strips down the center of the chassis if your stock plastic center section... or exo chassis. Settles the truck down a lot.
Past the exo slipper locker for the front. The center ball diff from rcshox makes a world of difference on an outdoor track and a very noticeable difference on an indoor track.
But get used to what you got again and check out the different tuning directions people on this thread are going and see what works for you.
It's a good steering truck that just needs some setup work to make it fast. Hop-ups are later as you get a feel for what you want to change.

For me personally it was a must. No sense in wasting money on the Exotek locker, just glue the clicker and tighten it all the way down. I ran it like that for well over a year without a hiccup.
Are you running either of the slipper mods heavy jeff? The locked clutch or the center ball diff? Just wondering about the overdrive pulley working with these mods. Im gonna put it in the truck for a pack and see what happens.
Although I'm not running 4wd much these days, have more or less switched to 2wd mod.
I would think the same thing with the exo locker but I have not run one. But that is locking the drive to the front essentially giving you what people are looking for from the overdrive pulley... more drive from the front end.

This truck gets pretty complicated just with slipper types and options:
-Original slipper setup with HD pads one front/rear or both.
-New factory team vts slipper... Coupled or Uncoupled.
-Exotec locker
-Center Diff
-Aftermarket clutch basket
-Garodisks
Then to add to this, all of these setups could be ran either standard or overdrive. Confused.
All I know is the truck handles horribly if you have the factory team VTS, 19T overdrive and a smoked front slipper pad
which I think is very common when running the OD front. The rear slipper has way more grip (VTS, front only relies on one pad), but the front is being put under a higher load due to the OD front pulley. This translates to front slipper pads that wear fast. Why does my truck handle like a 2wd?!
All the options is preference... VTS, C-Diff, basket and so on. Everyone has their favorite, who's to tell which one is best. Got 4 options, you'll get 4 opinions.
The overdrive pulley gives you more push.
The exo locker gives you more push.
Same thing (sort of), two different ways of doing it.
There is a front slipper that replaces the clicker... don't see the point of that when everyone's looking for more push or understeer to calm the truck down.

Here's a bit I wrote (and Tekin confirmed as true in another thread) about the current limiter funciton:

That was a great write up, I did not know current limiter was such a great tool. Great job! Thanks
