Why keep my MT?
#1
I now have 3 Truggies. I love them. Before I got them, I was running my Revo and my Savage (all nitro).
After watching my Truggies flat out haul and jump all over everything, I'm wondering why I should keep my MTs. My Revo I will probably always keep because it was my first RC. But why keep the savage? They flip, suck at jumping and not as fast. Almost impossible run on a track. A total nightmare to work on.
What does a Monster Truck do that a Truggy does not do 5x faster and better?
One reason I've really been thinking about this is because i'm trying to sell my Hot Bodies Truggy for half the price of Revos, Tmaxxs and Savages but have barely gotten an email about it.

The driving characteristics is what makes it fun. The high ground clearance and big wheels is what makes it fun. The wheelies and big block power is also a big element.
I prefer monster trucks over truggies. I have tuned my Revo to be fairly competitive with a truggy (although it will never get there). A savage can also be good at the track. Just need to tune it right.

Agree with Mongdex.. MT's are fun. I am of course a big fan of my LST2's, but I even think Savages are fun to drive(my issues there are with part quality..) There's a challenge to driving them. Truggies are boring outside of a track IMO.. And I still don't care what anybody says - I like the 2-speed shift..
One of the things about my LST2's too is that they are good stock - yes, RTR. Same goes for a Savage. With truggies I anyway always feel the pressure to have the best of the best stuff - i.e. at least a grand investment. Novarossi Roma or whatever with just the right pipe, Hitec 7955's, etc.. And they burn through tires way too fast.. Yeah MT's are not durable on a track. But outside of that they are plenty durable if you're not a complete bonhead running into walls at WOT etc. My first LST2's is six years old and going strong...
D.amn!! Two weeks of cold rainy miserableness and just thinking about it my trigger finger is getting all twitchy...
ps Another thing: I actually think buggies are more fun to drive all-around than truggies. Truggies just look cooler though(IMO). But if you are limited in terms of where you can run, a buggy is more fun in a parking lot for high speed runs, or a field or gravel road or whatever.. Big air I guess a truggy is better, as you get a bit more cushioning with the bigger tires, but they're both gonna' bottom out really hard, and strain those expensive big bore shocks whatever the case... Whatever the case, in some ways a buggy is a much better compliment to an MT than a truggy..

I gotta go Truggy over the buggy. Track and bashing. Buggies flip more.
Ya. the savage is fun to drive. Looks so cool.
But jumping my truggies over some big air lately had me thinking about this. They were taking some serious beatings. My 8ight buggy too. Nothing evere broke.
I gotta replace a tire on my Savage. Been a few months since I ran it. Maybe I just forgot what it's like.

I agree that MT's are the ultimate bashers. I've sort of fallen out of love with my truggy, mainly because I rarely can get to a track anymore. Monster trucks are just good overall all terrain vehicles IMO. I also have a preferance for the LST's, but I'm referring to 1/8 MT's in general..I find you can pretty much run them anywhere and have a good time. I've also gotten more into bashing the 5ive T lately, which is another great 'ATV'. Although it's not what I would consider an alternative because of the price, the realism of the larger scale, even for bashing, makes it worth it for me.

Buggies are a hoot and a half to drive, tons of fun IMO. Truggies are kinda like buggies in that respect, but they are almost stupid easy to drive. Definitely one of the most forgiving and that's part of what makes them so capable. I loved my 8ight-t 2.0, but I agree with HerrSavage, had to have the best one with lots of good stuff in it too. Maybe the sticker shock hadn't worn off or it was too pretty, but I just couldn't bash it. I cringed everytime the chassis slapped or scrapped even though I knew it could take more of a beating.
But my true Rc love is MT's. Something about their characteristics that appeals to me. I liked being behind the wheel of my Revo 3.3 a little better than my LST. The Revo was a little better in the handling dept and more like a Truggy, but the LST is better in other ways. I find they jump pretty good, but they'll never be as good as a Truggy or carve it up like one either, Id still take an MT over a Truggy though.
Btw, there are a few die hard Lightning fans out there, as it is a solid rig. But it's an aging platform and some may have never even heard of it. Might want to mention when selling it that the new HPI Trophy Truggy is a rehashed Lightning so at least people know they can get parts easily.

Monster trucks have their place. Once the truggy platform hit the scene (Jammin CRT and since) the monster truck racing life changed so you can't compare racing a truggy to a monster truck. I have to agree with the above on the big shocks and tires have a certain appeal. I am a savage fan and they are just so forgiving. They take everything you can throw at it and ask for more. The TVP's aren't the most easy thing to work on but they can stand up to an enormous amount of beating.
I guess all I am trying to say as each model has it's place. You can bash a truggy too, don't get me wrong but I think that the current line up of MT's out there are just better off road (IMO) and that truggy's are far superior on the track.

I feel the same way..once I started bashing my truggy I no longer had any desire to drive any of my MT's......I could just do so much more with the truggy that I just could not do with the MT...The stability and accurate handling just allowed me to run the machine much harder then I could any of my MT's...I can go over rougher terrain at much higher speeds, I safely can hit big air jumps with great accuracy, I can climb steep hills without wheelying over backwards.......... I find with my truggies I bash at much higher ground speeds then I can with the MT's...I go out to the pits and pretty much run wide open over everything...If I even try to match the same ground speed with the MT I find the truck gets bucked and kicked all over the place and mostly ends up on its lid.... for me the speed and capability of the truggy make it a much more entertaining vehicle to bash with, but I am also not scared to bash my truggies just as hard as I bashed my MT's....The only way a truggy is fin t bash is if your not scared to break it... and are willing to push it to its limits, ...If you are unwilling to really push your truggy over some gnarly terrains then your not likely to have any fun with it....If your too worried about the cost of breaking the machine then its likely not a good choice as a basher....The truggy does things so effortlessly that it really has to be pushed hard to find its limits, and if your not wiling to push it to the limits then its going to be a boring machine to use as a basher.........
