RC10B4.1 FT/WC
I posted why a couple months back. You can find it here.
Yeah, I didnt really get any of that, aside from manually check your rates. Given you check the rates and pick the correct BB spring, what are you gaining with the wider diameter spring aside from rubbing? I know in extreme conditions where a spring is very skinny and one is very fat, the thin one will buckle sooner. but how much does it really help gaining 2 mm.

Aside from the springs rubbing there are other benefits to the BB springs. Since they are a larger diameter, for a similar spring rate the willingness for the spring to buckle reduces substantially, and therefor decreases any side loading that would be imparted onto the shock (also causes the rubbing). This side loading increases shock shaft drag and reduces the amount of force being transferred to the tire. A lower force (downward), especially when cornering decreases tire grip. Both of the Ryans feel that our standard shock creates more side-bite than a BB, at the expense of the car not landing big jumps as well. I personally don't really think BB's are better, and we have been able to prove that they are magical (significantly faster) in any sense but there are some small advantages. I think people in general just think they need them....but we are working on our BB shocks and they will definitely be THE BEST!
Nice.
vw addict,
A few months ago there was a huge discussion about springs, etc. on here, and you can look at the tune with camber links thread. If you don't want to read the whole thread, use the search function.
It's not that nobody can tell you, it's that apparently nobody wants to wade into that stuff again right now. I'm not trying to be a jerk, (after all, I own a VW) but that topic nearly ruined this thread for me. Please, for the love of god, just search. Please.

Picked up my first A-main win this weekend in over a year of racing with my FT B4.1 converted WC. Just wanted to share that. Anyways...
I rebuilt my shocks before the race weekend and I noticed the dampening of the right shock was significantly more than the left. I had bought a new shock shaft thinking there was a slight bend in the shock shaft causing the dampening difference. Instead I found that I had the #3 piston in the right shock and the #1 piston in the left. It's almost unbelievable how such a seemingly minute change in the piston hole bore size can have such a significant effect on the dampening of the shock and handling of the buggy. So much of tuning the buggy is this way.

Though if you want the avid springs and not losi just go on avid and see those
I run the losi spring cups and traxxas collars but thinking of changing front cups the traxxas because i find it hard to get the correct ride height because the losi cups are taller so my collars are all the way up to get the 24mm

Hey everybody. I have read through about 90 pages looking for an answer to my question on shocks and upgrades. Since I have not seen it yet, I am going to just add to the giant thread to see if I get a response.
I just purchased the RTR kit with all stock parts and after making a few minor adjustments, took it out racing with some buddies. I already have made up my mind to upgrade the chassis, but I wanted to know what people recommend as the first or second upgrade they recommend from the stock kit. I am looking to make the car more durable and to handle better. Any suggestions?
Second question, regarding shocks. I know the shocks on the stock car are woefully inefficient and will not stand up to jumps and a rough track for long. Someone mentioned a switch to straight Losi shocks, and entire new set. Another friend mentioned another manufacturer and yet a third recommended disassembling the shocks I have and just changing out a few pieces. Any recommendations?

I can throw it around the track better and it will soak up more stuff.
That is what it feels to me.
I let a guy drive it that drives Losi's and He thought my Buggy handled better than his 22 did...

Anyone that tells you that the stock shocks are all that bad might be exaggerating. I think that you will find that your best money spent early on is in track time and practice. You need to start getting to know what your car wants before you can start replacing parts on it. In the long run, if I had to choose a manufacturer to replace shocks with I guess I would go with Kyosho. They've pretty much always made the best shocks. A bit spendy though.
