Hey there guy's my first brushless recon was a electric rc torment the problem with it is the lack of front end control although all that power going to 2 wheels is mint. With the way I geared my torment I was able to get it on par with my trx3.3 nitro tmax it amazes me even now that it plowes down the field just as fast and is almost silent it's crazy.

Well.... I've been looking into now converting my tmax to brushless and the more and more research I do the more people I hear have to take out the whole gear box and replace it with what they call the straight drive kit. Also cause the motor will obviously do the braking for you there shouldn't be the need for the old mechanical brake it will just take up more room on your chassis.

And if your converting it to brushless another good mod is to cut another hole in your chassis and use the servo which used to select forward or reverse flip it up side down and use it as a second steering servo just for extra steering torque hope this helps some ill let ya know how I get on wi doin mine

Hey mate, great build, I have started on converting mine to BL, I will be counting on this thread for tips and info.

I am basically doing it for the same reason you, I will be looking forward to the challenges and it will get me a bit more involved in the forum

Almost done converting my friend's old SuperMaxx Tmaxx from nitro to BL. I put in a Castle 2200 Mamba Monster setup with a 18T (20T pinion as 2nd choice) and Robinson 72T spur. I converted the original 2spd trans with the Traxxas single speed conversion and forward only conversion and it has the how2rc high motor mount. Since it's a custom SuperMaxx milled chassis, the conversion wasn't as easy as it should have been had it had the stock Tmaxx chassis plate because there isn't alot of "meat" to the chassis to mount stuff to. To deal with that, I made custom plexi-glass plates that I attached to the chassis to give me something to mount the ESC and soon to arrive OFNA SCRT 10 battery box to. This truck is HEAVY because everything except the trans case is alumium, so I'm going to start out with 18/72 gearing and see how it reacts. I have already detuned the ESC by setting the punch control to 40% to keep the plastic gears in the trans alive as long as possible. Will update after I get the battery box in and installed. I plan on running a single Flightmax 3S 30C 5000mah lipo in it. I'd like to run duals, but the space just isn't there. Lastly, why does nobody sell a "turn key" nitro Tmaxx to BL Tmaxx kit? Seems like there is money to be made there...................

The site won't let me post pics, so...........no pics.

My only concern are the plastic gears in the trans. Traxxas doesn't make a single speed or forward only kit with metal gears, which seems stupid considering guys put big power nitro engines into these things. But anyways, I tried to address all that with a BL Emaxx trans, but it will not even remotely fit into the Supermaxx chassis. It falls through the spot where the trans would mount because it is so much smaller than the Tmaxx trans. Again, the Supermaxx chassis is not ideal for doing a BL conversion because it is not as adaptable as the stock flat plate chassis.

If you do the Traxxas single speed conversion, you can eliminate the mechanical brake and servo. The motor will be used for braking.

Check this post, might have missed it before http://www.rctech.net/forum/9894441-post29.html

92lilredyj put a BL emaxx trans on his tmaxx chassis using 2 simple metal plates. It is doable.

Nice looking conversion! My buddy might be doing something similar sometime soon. I'll tell him to check this thread out.

Do Not use the 2.5 single speed conversion transmission!!!!!!! You will shred the gears and will break all your shafts, I recommend,, no I insist you use the brushless tranny. just like sloracer1080 said, what 92lilredyj did. I also made that conversion and no problems what so ever. 2200kv mamba will break everything. If you use 2200kv 540 size motor your 2.5 tranny will hold up.

I've got a BL Emaxx tranny in my possession should he tear up the Tmaxx trans. The stock driveshafts have been replaced with HD metal dog bones at one point in time. Nothing on this truck is stock Traxxas other than the trans. Google Supermaxx and check it out. Not my style, but I guess it was early 2000s Tmaxx excess back in the day.

It's dumbed down with 40% punch control and will only use a single 3S pack. If need be, I can also limit the torque output via Castle link. This combined with his unwillingness to wad up his thousand dollar truck should keep parts alive.

Got the battery tray in, plugged in the 3S 5000 lipo, squeezed the trigger and yeah. What a dog. Hooked up the Castlelink and set the punch control to 0. Got the bottom end back, but damn, this thing has no top end with the 72/18 combo. The fact that it's heavy is not helping, but I was expecting more out of it, even only on a 3S 30C pack. I wonder what the tranny and diff gear ratios are? I guess I will be going up on pinion size to try find some top end.

I ran into the same issue with speed so i jsut ditched the whole idea and built a flm emxx. Pieced it together and built it the way i wanted! Still in the process of tweaking it.

You really should go up to at least a 4s battery. I run 4s and 20/65 gearing. On 3s I run 20/58. That gives good speed. With your combo you could go 22/58 and be ok on heat on 3s.

2200kv is a low KV when going though a tranny and axles so you have to gear up ALOT to comp.

X2 I run 18/54 on 4s in my Revo, which has a similar gear ratio in the tranny, iirc
