Need help wiring Scanner RC esc to brushless
#1
My Scanner RC 150amp car ESC instructions don't indicate which wire is ment for which motor terminal (A,B&C). Does anyone have any experience with this brand of car ESC ? I'm using a 550 D3 5.5 sensored
At the esc end it is labled:
- U V W +
I had it wired UA, VB & WC but it seemed to function in reverse ... ie full forward when in full brake on tx.... (the instructions do say to operate the TH channel in reverse) tried it in normal... nothing.
I read somewhere if you reverse any 2 of the motor wires you will reverse motor direction so I wired it:
UC,VB & WA
but the motor sounded VERY sick (spinning under duress.... made a grinding sound and the esc started to smell burnies) so while it was going I instantly shut the whole thing down. I've emailed Scanner RC but because Hobbyking no longer list it I'm not confident I'll get a responce some how.
Seems swapping any 2 wires on a brushless DOESN'T always remedy a reversing motor.......
there's an RC myth busted for ya !

Yep, no myth about that. Sensorless motors only, serious damage can occur to a sensored setup by reversing motor wires. Some sensored setups have a motor reversing function in the ESC settings, but first I would recommend you try re-calibrating the ESC after reversing the throttle channel on the radio.

If it works and isn't glitching, just the motor is reversed, then you are wired correctly on a sensored set up. If you try what crusey suggests it will glitch or damage things.
Leave it wired as it is then reverse the throttle channel on your transmitter.
Swapping any two motor wires ONLY works on a sensorless set up. You should never do it on a sensored system.

Without knowing if you simply switched it and tried it again, or if you actually went thru the proper calibration procedure after switching the Tx, I dont know what else to tell you. 9 out of 10 times this is something simple like improper calibration or settings. Good luck.

Good point on the recalibration.... is that needed after just reverting the TH to normal on the tx ?
I did get an answer from them... waddya-know ! see below....
so,..... are all sensored motors wired in the same ABC sequence ?
