SC10 4x4 Thread
how have you been driving? straight lines or?
when I do straight lines on a flat surface with high traction, my motor stays cooler then when i run on a clay/dirt track and I have to give gas and hit the brakes all the time.
This is funny..you agree on "don't run pinions that small" yet you are running a small pinion based on TRACK SIZE..
..I run on a 70x40 track, jumps right outta turns, short straightaways anything bigger than a 13 doesn't work..my motor temps are in the 130 range and speed controler temps are in the high 120's..this tells me I'm pretty close on the gearing..

10 tooth or smaller is for a rock crawler....11 is pretty close to that...but yet he's probably running the 32 pitch gears too, which is ideal for those big 550 size motors.
What temps were you hitting with the 12?
I run a 13, but thats on a track. There will probably be less load on the street and more air flowing over the motor so you may get away with a 14. But I think 14 will be as far as you should go with a 4.5 turn motor for pure street driving.
When you said that it was running cool, was that after 10+ minutes of driving? Maybe even driving it until you get to the esc voltage cut off?
I know you said that you don't drive it for the entire battery pack, but you want to gear with the assumption that you will. Maybe after driving with a 15t pinion for 5 minutes you are getting to 160°, thats good... but what if one day you are really having fun and drive for 10+ minutes with the 15 and get your temps to 210 and fry your motor?
Gear it to the max acceptable temp at the maximum run time your battery wll give you.
Question for you guys who showed interest: Do you guys want to buy the Diff Bearing Mod as:
Diff housing with included mod Bearings only? Basically just replacing your housing, re-using your bearings and internals - Cheap Approx: $20.00 ea
Diff Housing
Or
Full Built Diff with internal gears, Outdrives, and bearings? Complete, Just add oil. - Not-so-Cheap Approx: $45.00 ea
Diff Kit

Thats crazy low, you probably can get away with a 15t.
Just make sure you are testing the temps throughout and all the way to the end of a full battery.
You dont want to surprise yourself with a temp thats way too high if you drive more than your 6 minutes or whatever is your norm.
IE: I hit about 150 to160 depending on day or night in a 7 minute main.
During practice when I drive over 10 minutes and completely drain the lipo I can reach 170.
You dont want to gear to a 160 temp after 5 or 6 min because you could be way over 160 after 10 minutes.
Rc is a time warp, I know all of us have told someone (wife) that they will be leaving the track in a half hour and that person calls you two hours later asking where you are.

The trick to not making your clubs crash video this week is not to crash.
I ran my old orange and white body last weekend. Some great SC crashes though. I had to share with you guys.

Here is a hot lap of me running the camera body on my truck. Go Pro mounted on top made it a little tipsy in the corners but still a fun lap to watch.
