For the first time in 5 years, I decided to take my RC8be to a track. I had a great time on the course and I am considering more trips and possible entering into a race. My car is set up for speed because all I did was run it up and down my street or at a huge grass field. My question is regarding my current gearing setup. I have a 44t spur and a 25t pinion on a MMM 2200kv motor. Is that ideal for a short course or what should I change it to to make my car run efficient and less stress on my motor. Thanks!

When I ran my RC8B converted to electric at a fairly small indoor track with a Tekin 1700 I was using the spur that came with the conversion kit and like a 15 or a 16 tooth pinion. 25 is probably WAY to high for even larger tracks. I would start around a 16 tooth for the 2200. Keep in mind that that motor is going to be RIPPING fast for a small track.

What about lipo's...i been using 4s when i bash. when i went to the track my friend told me 2s is perfect and 4s ill be way overpowered. so i went with 2s. 2s on my mmm 2200 kv 44/25 gear setup. Tonight ill be going to a track that is bigger and my friend says that i can use 4s with my setup. In all honesty, on a track I am comfortable with just using 2s now. i just want to make sure that it is not in any way damaging or wearing my motor down more than it normally would.

What kind of radio do you have? If you can adjust the endpoint for the throttle, then do it. That'll allow to control the top-end of the power, great way to keep you out of trouble, and learn the buggy on the track.

I'd run it 4 cells though, the buggy was designed to have that much weight in it, and you'll likely kill any 2 cell you put in it, unless you take it easy.

I have the DX2S and yes I can dial down the throttle. Last week when I ran it with just a 2s it ran fine and super long....id say 35-40 mins of practice runs on a short track. if I dial down the throttle with 4s, I can achieve longer run times than I would if I didn't?

I will order myself a range of pinions starting with 16t going up to 20t to see how it responds. Ill go back to stock spur gear too with the pinions.

Wow. With constant use on 25/44 gearing, I'm surprised that motor is still going. It must've been getting pretty damn hot?

Anywhere, between 15t-18t for the pinion should get you the right gearing.

Doesn't get hot at all....I raced last night. It was my first 30 minute race. While everybody was pitting, swapping batteries and filling up gas mid-race, I managed to run 5 laps ahead of the pack before pitting. I usually don't check my temps because I never had an issue with motor temp, but my friend checked my temp during pit and it was at 115 then and after the race.
