i need to upgrade from my swallow EQ ,as ime racing 1/8 4S now
theyre both the same price ,a lot cheaper than i expected ,and wonder which if any , is suitable ?

i cant find the the 720I anywhere else to compare ,could this be an outdated model ? plenty of 730i about ,but only 720i ive found were ac/dc type.

Yep, the 0730i, 30 amps 550W, is basically the updated model of the 0720i.

The AC/DC version is less power, 150W on DC 90W on AC.

Solid chargers all, more flexibility and options for control than most.

yea thanks dave ,but the 720i ime looking at is stated DC only ,20amp 250watt.i cant even find it on international hyperion site ,so i was wondering if it was discontinued ages ago ,ie old stock

of the 2 , 720i or 1420 ,which would be more suitable

If you don’t plan on going much beyond 4S batteries the 1420 isn’t really needed, more of a large airplane charger. Would work fine, just a lot of unused capability for what you mention. Keep in mine possible future needs of course.

The 0720i DC model isn’t very old, would be a fine choice for 4S charging, especially if you can get it at a good price.

The 0730i would be somewhat more future proof, if you wanted to take advantage of and are comfortable with the higher charge rates some are using with the latest lipos.

But not a big deal, the 0720i is capable of nearly 15 amps on a 4S, hardly a slouch. Again only if you’re comfortable and have proper lipos, follow safety considerations properly, and are aware you can’t go over 1C at ROAR events, etc.

Bottom line, see a good deal on the 0720i grab it and get to racing!

Sir I been looking for a New Charger for last week now.

Hyperion was my first pick. Till I started looking at some of my Heli Forums and Plane sites.

I too I'm starting to race 1.8 Ele.

What I have found in this week reading and reading. The Powerlab 6 and Powerlab 8 v2. Is the best Charger out.

VERY VERY GOOD.

I have 2 Hyperion chargers and I feel they are the best on the market. I would go with the best one that you can afford. It will pay for itself in the long run by charging your lipos properly. When I upgraded from a single battery charger to a duel battery one, I could not bring myself to sell the 1st one because it works so well. I would not recommend anything else. When I upgraded, I went with their flagship model. Love it.

ive had a brief look at the powerlab 6&8 info following the links you posted motorman007 . As you mentioned ,very impressive , I havent got any prices yet ,but i see mention of $ per watt ,might be @ $200, seems very reasonable,and will look further into later .

the Hyperion 1420i ,and 720i (dc)(250w)are the same price ,$140 us ,and the 730i @$30 more.which would you buy IYO Dave h.?

thanks also Jim,ile probably go with hyperion ,i havent heard a bad word about them,my local HS and fellow club member has many years experience with electric and pointed me in the right direction (hyperion),the only negative being ,if there are any issues ,ie faults etc ,thers no supplyer in AUST ,so i would be up for heafty freight charges to US for repair etc.he also recomended Imax p680 (?i think) ,and LRP.because they have distributors over here.

I have 2 heavy duty truck 150cca 12v batts to use as power supply,which i can series to 24v if required. Or would it be safer for the charger getting a quallity power supply as well ?

Big lead acid batteries are the best power source there is for a charger, if you don't mind lugging the heavy beasts around and maintaining them. Cleaner power, no hum or ripple, they don't care if someone else trips a circuit breaker, etc.

Running 2 in series for 24V is easier on the charger and batteries, a little less heat for the charger, and less discharge on the batteries, as lead acids don't like a lot of discharge. Deep cycle marine types would be even better. The 2 in parallel for 12V would also reduce discharge of each.

I don't have much to add on the charger choice that I haven't already rambled on about. They all will work fine.

I have the Hyperion 720i DC $100 like NEW here on RC Tech and a Mean Well S-320-12 power supply $40 and I could not be happier. If I was to change any thing I might look at a Hyperion Dual. I was using a Triton EQ 2 which is AC/DC with no complaints. Reason for upgrade is the new Nanotech & Gen ACE are now charging at way past the old 1c rates; 5c capable.
I may not be as electrically knowledgeable as some the other racers, but I do enjoy research. For quality, reliability, performance, functionality & Price the Hyperion units were always rated at the top. This Site has been excellent source for Quality info numerous projects & problem issues. I have never had the need to go beyond the 4 cell Lipo's so my info was within that range, & I have never owned the a power Lab unit. I have owned Turnigy Accucel-8150 & A30 power supply, Thunder AC6 Ac/Dc & MRC brain 992 charger & power unit.
