I currently run a VTX10 in my B4, VTX1 in my SC10, and the R10 Pro in my T4. I love the Viper equipment but I have been pleased with the Orion. I will never run a motor below 8.5 so I didn't need the VTX10R (it will run the lower turn motors). The VTX1 is the same as the VTX10 with the exception it will run a 1S battery. You do not need a computer for the Viper equipment, you will get a Pro Gauge which is very user friendly. If Viper has new Firmware you can send it to them and they will load the new firmware for no fee or you can buy an adapter to do it yourself. I think it is like $20... For the Orion R10 you will need the Programmer which is like $70 extra. (I heard the Hobbywing programmer works just the same but have not tried it myself, that is like $20) You can load new firmware on the R10 Programmer and than load it to the ESC. Both brands can be programmed by the buttons on the ESC's... If it were me I would go with the Viper VTX10 or VTX10R depending on the turn of motor you will be running.
I'm also looking for comparisons in smoothness. I have heard Orion is very smooth. Does that mean the Hobbywing is as well? How about Viper compared to the others?

Pretty much all I have ran this year and have been extremely happy with both the ESC and their motors. I did try a LRP SXXv2 several weeks ago and on the first night out the BEC went out of it. I did not have a positive experience with the support department on it, so I just tossed it and went back to my SP stuff.

well I guess the plan is to send both SXX's back and get them repaired. Based on what I have been hearing, this may take a while right now for various reasons on their end. I have an RS coming in the next week or so from a buddy. It was his back up and never used. So I figure I'll have a little bit of time to try a few things and do some research. Eventually I'll keep my LRP's for back ups or future cars.
With 2wd mod being my main class, I am of course concerned more about how smooth the speedo is rather than pure power.

hey MR.BARRY did u try taking ur lrp speedo apart and just lightly blowing or get a brush and clean around the buttons sometimes dirt or junk get to them and makes them not workkk... its not hard at all 4 screws and just pull the top off thats it... remeber im a pro at taken a speedo apart!!!lol
performance wise, no doubt. Love my LRP. But last week, cracked board and this week the buttons don't work on my replacement. Press and hold mode... nothing. Set either. I did get lucky and get the Speedo to reset into default one time. It's almost like the buttons just don't work anymore. So now I have my only working speedo stuck in blinky mode....
I'm going to send em both back and get them repaired..... but this just flat out sucks...... 2 weekends... 2 200.00 speedos.

nice buggy looks really good too. i tried shorty pack car felt good but i was faster with the long pack (i think, im still slow tho) which is why im trying to sell my shorties in the f/s section hah.
cant really blame them... u dont no how they were before u got them right? thats why i always cring when people buy used electronics... speciallyn radios/rec/speedo/motor
Or not even buy the new Orion motor..super slow! Best motor out there is the Orion pro race 2010 version...the 3 piece...I have the 7.5 and it's the smoothest motor I've own and is still very fast.. I won't use anything else after switching to the 2010 orion

I didn't have my transponder in but I did run a full size pack also, the shorty is more forgiving, still have to tinker with my setup
how did the you like it with the full pack? ive only run shortys in mine and it worked well but a few of the wc guys said the long pack is even better!?
Barry! Viper is just a smooth and can be even smoother, personally i don't like that super soft feeling in my throttle which it can give. proguage is sick and the best card to program. You can fine tune it so much
the motors are torquey compared to most but just as smooth as the novak, orion and reedy motors i have tried.
use what is actually better for you.

i didn't get a whole lot of time with a full size pack, but what i could tell is that the short seemed to take everything a little better,I'm waiting for my full size pack to come, but when i run it i will thinken the oils a little and see how that is.I really like the shortys though

MR SCREW
LOVE the performance of LRP. You know this.....Just a run of crappy luck. Gonna send em back to get fixed but need something in the mean time and am looking to try something new. I've ALWAYS been a card carrying Orion Fanboy dating back 10 years
and thought it might be cool to check out one. Then heard that HobbyWing makes em and costs half the price..... then someone mentions Viper.........
DAMN ALL OF YOU FOR ALL OF YOUR SUGGESTIONS AND OPINIONS
If I don't find what I want, EXACTLY what I want, I will just grab another LRP.
