Default HPI E10

I'm new to the r/c world but just bought and hpi E10 monster energy drift which I have just made a few changes to. Replaced 27t motor with firebolt 15t. 5000mah 6cell batt., and ditched the drift tires for sport tires. also replaced rims and bodyshell to F150 flareside. I want speed more than anything just to bash at home but on a really tight budget. My question is with the firebolt 15t which pinion gear would be optimal as now it has a 48p 22t with 65t spur gear. Lower turns is supposed to be faster but when I still had the 27t motor I could run a 33t pinion and the top speed was alot faster than it is now. Any recommendations? And don't say brushless as it isn't in the budget.

Those fireball mod motors are easily to overheat, I never think they were good quality but too bad there aren't too many mod motors (brushed) available. You dropped from 33 to 22 on the pinion gear size, that's a huge change. If your car tops out right away, then it's undergeared. Try 26 - 28 tooth for pinion gears range.

Furthermore, Tamiya still make the 23 turn spec racing motors (RZ, TZ, RR). They are better choices than the cheap quality venom fireball motors.

22t is around the limit with this motor i think considering it tends to overheat and shutdown after longer runs. Will dropping to a 20 or 21 help by relieving some of the load and increase speed or should I go with say a 20t motor and gear bigger?

Bearings are on my list of upgrades. I am also considering going lipo, but the esc program instructions are hard to follow and dont understand them.

Would the Associated 540R 6100kV Motor and esc get me close to 50+ on nimh battery or would lipo be required?
