How many of you are running the Tekin pro4 4600kv? Is it a good choice? I'll be racing only and in 2 different indoor tracks. One is very small and the other is medium size. I'll be planning on racing it outdoor on a few large tracks.

I'll be ordering my kit either today or tomorrow, are there any other MUST haves to get? Otherwise I need to keep it to a minimum. Plus I was thinking I should get some pinions...any thoughts?

Thanks!

By the way this is my first AE vehicle so I'm not very familiar with them and have no other parts etc.

Most people are running the 4000 kv Pro4 over the 4600. Unless you are always at a giant track, the 4000 has enough power for the lighter SC10 4x4. Nothing wrong with the 4600, but you will be overpowered at the indoor tracks.

With the 4 pole motors I consider a clutch basket or Garodisks, full sway bar set, and something to stiffen the chassis (tube, CF brace, AL center chassis, etc).

Like Krio said the 4600 is a very powerfull motor. And since you said you will be running on a small and medium size track, I think the 4600 would be a handfull to handle on a indoor track. And when you start racing outdoors, if you need a little more power you can allways use a little boost

Thanks for the info! I forgot to mention ill be running a MMP for now. Will the 4000kv have plenty of power for a larger outdoor track as well? I tried looking up a clutch basket on amain with no luck. That's where I'll be ordering my gear. Anyone point in the right direction for that and something to stiffen the chassis? Thanks!

I have the 4600 with the power turned down,, its a beast LoL, you may like or want that though. Ill be going down to a 4000, I run on medium.size outdoor tracks.

Get 13,14,15 tooth pinions.

Unfortunately you won't find the clutch basket or a chassis brace on amain. If you are looking to go the absolute cheapest/cost effective rout pick up some Garodisks from here http://rcshox.com/shoxshop/catalog/p...products_id=48
Then send a PM to CoyoteSlash here on RCtech, paypal him $15, and he'll send you a carbon fiber tube brace. I got one from him and it works perfectly.

Assuming you get the 4000 kv, grab pinions from 14-16 and you should be good to go.

With the garodisc, do they last longer than the AE High torque pads?

I have yet to hear of a set of Garodisks to wear out.

It doesn't have to be the most cost effective, I want it t work well. What are my other options? Now my other question is... Is it better to have the higher kv motor and gear down if needed? Or get the lower kv motor and boost it if needed?

Thanks

I run a MTK (user name MacTheKnife) Clutch basket that can be found here:
http://gearrings.weebly.com/rc-racing-stuff.html

Then you will either need an additional set of slipper pads or you can get the 3 pad Garodisk set from rcshox.com meant to use with the clutch basket.

It is more efficient to run a lower KV motor and gear up than gear down/tame a more powerful motor and at the same time the "feel" is more linear too. 4 pole motors don't like very much boost. They will gain some rpm, but they will gain more heat than it is worth. Going from a 15 tooth pinion to a 16 tooth pinion will get you the same increase in top end as adding ~15 degrees of boost with a smaller increase in heat.

I've let several guys that have 4600's run my 4000 kv on a medium sized indoor track and within 10 minutes they walked into the hobbyshop and bought one just because it felt so much better.

Pinion adapters are just used to get the motor shaft to the right diameter for the pinion you want to use. There are two prevailing standards right now: 1/8th of an inch (the smaller one) and 5mm. 8th scale motors use 5mm shafts as do many 550 motors. An 8th scale pinion adaptor just lets you use pinions with 5mm bores on motors with 1/8" shafts.

I'm not too familiar with this... Which is the better route? Is this to make the slipper work better? I think I may get the 4000kv. Which pinions do I need? I'm looking on amain, do I need the 5mm 32p pinions?

Thanks
