I use the BB 617 servo overvolted to 8.4v, they survive fine as long as your endpoints are set close, are fast, and torquy for a $25 servo that I replace every year...
Same here, never used the BL ones. Only issue I've ever had was the gear sets getting sloppy faster than some other brands, not a big deal considering their cost. I've found gear sets on e-bay as well.
