+1 on the something being wrong on the diff,
AE diffs are about the easiest to get built right and usually last a long time with proper maint.
I think a lot of people don't go through the trouble of breaking them in, so they're pretty much toast after the first couple of runs. A proper built and broken in diff should last awhile.
