My bad - I re-read your post and its not possible to have a single lipo cell read 5.89v. The only thing that makes sense is for the total voltage for both cells to be 5.89 with one cell reading .76.

This lipo could have a balance connector that is wired wrong - I see that your charger sees the same voltages as your checker - thru the balance conn. Please check the voltage across the main power wires with your DVM or MM. If that is 5.89v then you can try the NiMh charging as outlined. But to use this lipo you're going to have to switch the wires around in the balance plug so it reads correctly. Use your DVM and figure out which wire is not in the correct slot in the balance conn, then move the wires as needed.
