LiPo Balance Question
#1
I just got a few new lipos in the mail. I connected my voltage checker to them and two of them are great but one shows something like 5.89 on one cell and 0.76 on the other. I assume this is a bad battery. Is there any thing I can do to correct it? I have tried putting it on my charger but the readings didn't change. Any suggestions would be greatly appreciated.

If you're trying to charge it as a lipo, most chargers will not charge if the voltage is below 3v/cell or 6v for a 2S. This is a safety issue.
You can charge it as a NiMh at a low rate like 0.3-0.5amp just long enough to get the voltage back up over 6volts. Make sure you monitor this charging as if left alone it can potentially result in a fire. It is safe to do as long as the lipo doesn't swell and you stop it when you see thevoltage has gotten above 6volts.
Soon as it gets over 6v, stop the NiMh charge and charge it as a lipo. It should now charge. I'd charge at a low rate like 1amp to help the cell that was low 'catch' up. There may be some diff between cells when its charged. You'll just have to wait and see how much. This lipo may need a few low rate charges and discharges to get both cells to read the same.
I had the same issue with a Turnigy 3S - one cell was .42v and wouldn't charge. Its fine now after doing this same kind of thing with mine.

I ve got an old lipo reedy 2 cell lipo also that I think has one cell lower and sometimes when i go to charge it my hyperion goes nuts and tells me voltage is to low,so I just kept repeating till it started the charge and sometimes my charger will go nutz again saying cell overcharged.Could this be the other cell that reads more volts the the other and gets overcharged while the lower cell is still not fully charged? So when I charge it on nimh mode should I use the balancer?

Double check that your balance plugs are connected properly. 5.89 on one cell sounds really high and 0.76 sounds really low. It sounds like it would have puffed before it even reached those two extremes.

This lipo could have a balance connector that is wired wrong - I see that your charger sees the same voltages as your checker - thru the balance conn. Please check the voltage across the main power wires with your DVM or MM. If that is 5.89v then you can try the NiMh charging as outlined. But to use this lipo you're going to have to switch the wires around in the balance plug so it reads correctly. Use your DVM and figure out which wire is not in the correct slot in the balance conn, then move the wires as needed.
