No, he's just messing with you. I have 5 gtb's and run them every week in different classes and in the 3+ years I have been using them the only one I blew up was when I took a hit that bounced my esc into the motor and shorted the wires. Other wise I have not had or seen any others go in any of the on or off road racing I have done. Just make sure the wires have plenty of clearance and all will be fine!
