When i had it apart lookin at it the sleeve and piston looked clean. It was slightly sticky on top of the piston but there Wasnt any gunk on it. the problems you are having are definitely not the engine , as far as the collet i really coudn't tell ya . i would definitely not recommend a 300* preheat douglas
you should not have to get a pre heat over 220*
i am pretty sure there is some gobbly gook inside the engine if it is so tight that you cant even come close to turnin it over
