That said, Traxxas has been known to be able to become competitive, however it takes a small fortune in upgrades and modifications to make Traxxas truly track worthy:

Over the years I have raced alongside many 4WD Slashes against my TEKNO SCT410 and Traxxas cars are rarely able to complete a race day without a single break unless you're a squeaky clean driver like Jonathan Hernandez was in that video above. Generally Traxxas designs are dated which lack key aluminum and carbon updates which make them relatively fragile on a 1/8 track. I am not seeing any evidence to support the Jato will hold up to the rigors of club racing, but I do agree that the Jato may help draw in new blood so there may be a silver lining here
