No, to your second question. The center of the hood would rest on the bases of the stock posts before the post could even touch the taller parts of the hood (see pics in link above). The Traxxas parts are perfect and pretty quick to make up.

Measured at the closest points of the body to the chassis:
Passengers side: 21mm gap
Drivers side: 27mm gap
