The tapers face down. I know of no one that has ever tried them facing up... Your car would be extremely hurting on landings.
Taper pistons make your car react quicker.... Sometimes they feel really good on the bench but on the track they just don't get the lap times. It's really track dependent... Grip level/how technical the layout is/rough/bumpy/smooth.
A common feel is that they help the car to recover faster due to quicker rebound... It's always all about feel and preference though. There are times I love em and times I hate em.
