If the terminals heated up that much, it has nothing to do with the lipo cells themselves (except that the battery was able to deliver enough power to generate that kind of heat). That kind of thing happens when you have high resistance/bad connections, i.e. the bullets you used didn't have enough contact surface or the soldering was bad on the ESC or on the terminals inside the battery.
