First thing I recommend before putting loctite is to clean pinion and set screw with some type of degreaser to make sure the cutting oil is gone.
Usually makes all the difference when using loctite.

I don't agree that the only benefit is added runtime as that is NOT what I experience on a track.
I don't know if you race but it is felt on a track when coming out of a corner and needing to clear...

And I actually do have a HR 60t spur that...

0.5 is so much quieter and pinions on a metal spur are lasting WAY longer than their 48P counterparts.
Just offering my tested experience...

But when it's all together the play is not there anymore.
The play exists in the gear box and is taken out through the motor mount once all...

I always break in the engine with the stock bearing in and take it out after it loosens up.
