Suitable Car for vta
#1
I've been looking to get into running vta and i have a few questions.
1.. Is the tc4 club car a good car to run? I've had a lot of people try to trade them to me for my rig setup.
2. Is the gearing really that difficult to setup on the tc4?
3. What's the advantage of solid shaft and belt driven?
4. What's the best gearing for speed and torque?

1. It depends. A TC4 can be competitive in the hands of a competitive driver. However, it is an older design and isn't as easy to set up as newer touring cars. Also, what are other people in your club running? About 75% of our VTA field is $600+ TC kits (Arc, Xray, VBC, Yokomo, etc., even a few Awesomatix). A TC4 may have a hard time competing with those.
2. I think it may be due to the spur gear location, but I can't comment for sure.
3. In theory solid shaft drive should have less drag and thus less power loss from the power train. If you look at the Awesomatix and compare it to a belt car, the A car has almost no drive train drag. For a 25.5 class, that makes a difference (just like running good bearings, proper belt tension, etc.).
4. It depends on your track, is it small and technical or large and flowing? Some tracks/clubs even have gearing rules, so nothing below 4.0 for example. Ours doesn't have that and most run somewhere in the 3.5 - 3.8 range, depending on what they like, because of our layout.

I have a TC4.I haven't brought it to the track but I've found it to be much more forgiving than the belt drive Yokomo. It was a low priced entry vehicle, but I did run a few races with it.I had a hard time setting up my yoke.I'm running about a 3.5 to 1 ratio on my TC4.I figure I'll just have to fine tune it at the track. Also I never could figure out the drag advantages, belt vs. shaft.Every manufacturer claims their set up is the best and has the lowest drag coefficient. I think you've done good by getting the TC4.
