Default dead bat or bad receiver?

Exceed drift king.
we just got it today.
Came with gens 2000mah pack.
waited 4 hours to charge it, pop it in and run it for literally 2 minutes and it starts jerking or pulsing when I push on throttle or reverse. Also notice when its doing this, the steering twiches hard to the left.

Ive read the included battery doesnt last long but this lasted only 2 minutes so now am wondering if somethings wrong.

Is this how rc's act when the battery is dead or does it sound like a faulty receiver or transmiter??

Sorry for the noob questions.

What's the voltage of the battery after running? Nimh batteries typically take a few charge/discharge cycles to reach full capacity. 2000mah battery isn't going to last very long but it could have a bad cell. A bad cell will usually feel warmer than the rest of the pack.

I left the battery and car alone since last night when it was acting up. This morning the battery pack reads 7.76 volts.

Ok so last night the car was jerking and batterypack was at 7.76v

This morning i charged the battery for a few was 8.12v when I pulled it.
I put it in the car and it ran good once up the living room and back but then the jerking happened again....You can hold down throttle or reverse and it just studders moves a couple inchs...stops...moves...stops....etc.
.
Pulled batterypack and it read 7.85v
It didnt feel warm in any of the cells.

Checked esc connections and they were solid.
Really frustrated right now as this was my boys bday present and he couldnt wait.

It mentions setting a failsafe in the manual but doesnt explain why or what its for....is this the low volt cutoff?

First thing is to relax. Easier said than done I know.

Now lets check the following...

First make sure the ESC connections are secure to the receiver.

Next make sure there are no breaks in the power wires.

Let's also check the servo wiring, make sure there are no breaks in the line.

Then check the antenna on the receiver, make sure it is standing up and not broke.

After that, do a google search for * ESC Lipo cut off on Exceed RC car, how to disable*

No, does the problem happen if you have the car up and you are right beside it?

or does it happen when the car is away from you a few feet.

Battery's in the controller are they good.

Go through this checklist and get back to us.

Thanks.

I checked over all the wires / connections last night and unplugged/reconnected everything.
Batteries in the transmitter are new out of the package but cheap brand so will try to swap them.

I happens whether im close or far away from the car.

I got it on ebay so wondering if I should request an exchange?

You could.

I have a LRP Brushed ESC and 2 Tamiya silver cans I will give you if they won't exchange it.

Awesome.... appreciate the offer!

I sent the ebay rc company a message explaining the problem.
I havent left feedback yet so hopefully they will offer an exchange in fear of negative feedback.

I got the pack topping off ... going to try it again in a few and see what happens.

I had the chance to try the car again tonight.
Charged the battery untill the green light on the charger came on.... multimeter read 8.4v
Car ran fine about a minute or two then started jerking and cutting in and out.

Pulled the battery pack and it was still at 7.84v so should of had plenty of juice to run the motor.
The red led in the car comes on everytime i push the throttle but it doesnt respond or it just sputters/jerks. Triple checked all connections...bannana connector fully seated, motor connection good, esc connections good, no damaged or shorts in wires that i could find.

The ebay seller got back with me and seems like a nice guy...appologized and offered a refund, exchange,or his techs think it could be the esc and he offered to send me a new esc........
Im just going to have him send the new esc.... I dont really feel like having to package the car up and find time to stand in line at post office for an hour.

I cant find any info on these exceed esc's or much exceed info in general. Nitrorcx sells allot of exceed stuff so dont understand why they are not more documented
Oh well- at least i have a while to figure things out before it gets warm enough to take it outside.

I received the 3800mah nimh i ordered, charged it and tried it out.
Same thing... runs fine for a minute then throttle becomes intermitent and cuts in and out.
Pulled the new pack out and it measured 7.77 volts.
Its like it runs fine untill pack gets to 7.6-7.7v.

I guess ill just wait for the new esc to get here and hope that solves it.
Anyone ever experienced this behavior before? Is it likely the esc has issues?

The new esc isnt here yet.

The car runs perfect with both batteries untill the batterypack lowers to 7.6v (checked with meter after car fails to run) so im checking the batteries when they are not under load. Is it possible theres nothing wrong with the car and its just draining the battery in 1-2 minutes time?

Its a drift car so the tires are spinning on the carpet at high rpm.

I just dont know if when the battery is low the car is suppossed to jerk like its cutting out or theres a short or something.

When your battery is near dead and you have the throttle down all the way...should the car just creep around slowly or cut in and out jerking?

Ill put a fresh charged battery in.... car will run fine for 1-2 minutes. Then it will cuttout and start jerking. At this point if i go full throttle it jerks and cuts in and out but if i turn the throttle gain down or just barely push on the throttle it will drive around very slowly for another minute or so.
If i set it with wheels off the floor with it in the air it will also spin the wheels slowly but if i give it full throttle it cuts in and out and sputters.
Ican see the light on the esc cutting in and out as well flickering as it studders.

when battery is pulled it is stil 7.6v

Is this normal behavior?

ok you may need to cycle batteries still. hold it in the air low throttle until the tires dont move at all then charge a little longer than you should then drive it and repeat this method works to bring back half dead nimh batteries.

Will do.... might take a few days with this charger lol.
I think i should order a better charger. With a decent lipo/nimh charger ..cant you drain and charger cycle them?
