Default Building Gearbox

Hi. I have been working on an rc car built from scratch lately, and ran into an issue regarding motor placement. First off, these ideas are rough and not final.
I plan to use this motor: tinyurl . com/k33sswa
This is my spur gear: tinyurl . com/mnb67sr
I currently do not know the dimensions of the spur gear, but I inquired it of the manufacturer.

I do not want to have a linear drive shaft, just the motor (which comes with a pinion gear) directly attached to the spur gear, which is attached to an axle with the tires on either side.

Some questions I have are:
What material should I make the gearbox out of?
Is my idea realistic?
Will this motor be too powerful for a 3lb car?
Will my idea cause the gears to grind if misaligned? And if so, how should I remedy this?
How should I build my gearbox?

Your links don't work.
Is this a school project?
What you're describing sounds like a 2wd with no differential
If you use gears that have the same Pitch they shouldn't grind if they mesh nicely (small amount of play)

Sounds like you want a gear box like a pan car. Take some looks at how they are made and see if you get ideas from them.

What material should I make the gearbox out of? Aluminum
Is my idea realistic? sure
Will this motor be too powerful for a 3lb car? maybe
Will my idea cause the gears to grind if misaligned? And if so, how should I remedy this? Build it so the gears are aligned.
How should I build my gearbox? copy a pan car

Thank you both, a pan car is exactly what I was thinking of. I didn't know the name of it though, that's why forums exist, right?
