Default What does "blueprinted" mean?

I have heard the term "blueprinted" used more than once on these boards and was wondering what it meant. One post was referring to a blueprinted touring car and another was referring to a motor. Hopefully there is no such thing as a dumb question

Same goes for car engines. If you blueprint something you are restoring it back to exact specs.

Blue printing means rebuilding an engine to the original design specs. Manufacturing tolerences often allow a variance in the final product resulting in engines traveling down the line being different (in small amounts) from one another. Blue printing an engine will make sure that things like piston weight and cylinder bores are exactly as per originally intended by the manufacturer. Todays quality control (and I am speaking of automobiles here) usually means that you wont get as great a gain as you used to.
