Hi guys,

I first want to say wow, what a great forum.
I have been building model cars, gundam model kits and other resin kits all my life.
however, have never attempted to build an RC car before.

I was always into the Tamiya mini 4 wheelers back in the 80's and have recently been interested in the Tamiya "Avante" re- release RC model.

when I looked at the instruction manual, it was real intimidating since I've never built anything that intricate before.

Are there any tips you guys can give before I go ahead and spend a few hundred bucks on one?
I have thought about paying a hobby store to build it for me, but I thought it would be more fun if I learned.

Any guidance would be appreciated.

Not sure how good famous kit manuals are bit most are very well put together. Scab part of the kit will be built seperately and this will make it a lot easier.

Just as the previous guy said get the proper tools. It really sucks to get to a point in a gulf and not have the proper tool.

Also keep organized. Once you open the bag your working on don't open another unless instructed and kep everything in front of you.

It's one of the best parts of this hobby to build a kit and then run it.

wow. i assumed the kit came with a remote control and batteries. didn't know I had to purchase them separate. looks like this will become a pricey beginners experience.

get a good radio like the spectrum dx3c or even better dx3r. and get a lipo or 2 and appropriate charger

Yeah it really starts to add up I added up the money for my project and it was stupid expensive about 514 how much was that kit anyway if you want a screen techy radio for a low price You can either go for the DX3C or the DX2S I'd choose the DX2S you defiantly want brushless 2.4ghz and a good servo lipo and battery a good battery is gens ace but duratrax onyx seems like a good charger

I'm planning on getting the Tamiya Avante re-release which is about $500. so i wouldn't want to mess it up.
regarding painting the body (in this case it will be a clear poly carbonate "cut it yourself" body), what's the best way to paint it.
I understand you have to mask the windows from the inside and paint the inside only?....
that's the most intimidating for me actually.

Well put on the window masks then spray back to back apply 5-6 coats use plastic paints honestly don't worry about the body its just a body if you mess it up a new one is 20-30 bucks I'd be worried about gearing and electronics

also, i noticed in the instructions it states to use thread loc. what is this for?
would it make a difference if i use it or not?
is it more for performance?

Thread lock goes on screws?(I think) and Oh please please please use it you will be discouraged once your screws strip it does not improve performance but workability and convenience and what is your total budget? A spektrum DX2E would be good for a radio what is your. Udget with all electronics

with kits like that, anytime you are threading a thread cutting screw into plastic the first time (very common on tamiya model builds) i always go in two or three threads and then back out one or two, take your time if it's a self tapping screw and a bare plastic hole

threadlocker blue anywhere it's called for, keeps screws from backing off

if you really want the body to look A++, forget those window and other masks and liquid mask the whole thing then carefully follow the body lines with your xacto to make perfect masks

if it's in the budget tamiya tools are top quality, local hobbyshop can order surely

any trouble spots feel free to pm me, gimme a day or two tho
