Questions?? Mega Pro Buggy problem! Please help!

I purchased a Mega Pro (AKA Pro Pulse) RCB Buggy a few years ago and it somehow got damaged and has been in storage ever since.* I'm now trying to get it running again and need some help trouble shooting my problem since I don't live close to a hobby shop.* It quit working properly when I ran it through some very fine (almost powdery) dirt.* Now when I turn it on, it automatically goes full throttle in reverse with the wheels slightly turned and can not be controlled what so ever.* On occasion, after being turned on, instead of going full throttle in reverse, it sometimes will sit motionless and pulsate very quickly and THEN freak out and fly in reverse and violently crash into something without being provoked.* I think it's either the receiver or the ESC that needs replaced.* I would like to avoid purchasing both parts if possible, so any input would be appreciated.
Thank you!

If the steering is spazzing out as well as the ESC/motor, I would suspect the receiver is at fault here.

Yea, could be the receiver but before you replaace that I would try resetting the ESC. And check your throttle trim on your transmitter
