SC10 Antenna Length
#1
Hey Kids, I got a question.
I just got truck #2 which is a SC10. (Number 1 is a Slash 4x4--never met a wall it didn't like.) Anyway, opening the box I see this antenna sticking out of the body like 6 or 8 inches. I didn't actually measure it but it sticks way out.
How long does that thing have to be and does it have to stick out of the body?
And then I gots to modify the battery hold down strap to accomodate my Venom Lipos. So I'm going to take the hold down strap out to do the modification and that's when I discover that my new mm tools don't work in the SC10. So now I have to buy more tools to work on the SC10 and I'm wondering if I made the right choice for truck #2.
But my main question is the length of the stupid antenna.
Thanks for your help.
Pete

Is the actual antenna that long or just the tube? And yes AE uses standard hardware, except the 4 allen heads that hold the rear plate to the bottom of the chassis those are metric.
actually might not be but they're not a common std. size. You should have both sets of tools anyway. IMO

Not sure which 2.4 system you have the AE or another brand.
I run Spektrum and only run very small antennas on all my vehicles.
I have no vehicle with an antenna hole at all.
Not saying this will work with your application you might encounter
range problems as all my cars are track vehicles not bashers.

Everything on the chassis is SAE, the only metric hardware (besides the motor screws) are the 4 screws on the differential case (not to be confused with the transmission case) and the two large bearings the differential ride on are metric as well.

realized that after I posted and never edited my post. The srews on the rear plate are on odd size though, not really odd just not used anywhere else in an AE truck/buggy kit..

They're 5-40's instead of the normal 4-40 thread, little bit beefier and uses a different size Allen driver. Still SAE but I know what you mean, I mess those up all the time when I'm looking for tools or hardware. If you're not looking closely at a 4-40 and a 5-40 in your hand at the same time it's pretty easy to confuse one for the other.

Matt-
Yes, I use Venom Lipos which have bullet connectors. I see you have the FT SC-10. My son got one of those while I got the RTR version. My son's battery strap accomodates Venom Lipos. The strap that came with my RTR blocked the holes, regardless of how I positioned the battery. I got an aftermarket battery strap and the problem was resolved.
