Do i need to run a BEC with my 2 cell lipo rx pack on my associated RC8

no, BEC's are used in ESC's to eliminate the need for a second receiver pack. hence the name (battery eliminator circuit. you will in fact need a 6v voltage regulator!

The term BEC originally referred to a voltage regulator function built into an Electronic Speed Control as Joe mentioned. But at least in the States some companies still use the term BEC for the separate voltage regulator that you should use, such as Novak and Castle Creations (Mamba).

Not sure about our friends over the big pond. Hey Joe, perhaps another case of 2 countries divided by a common language! We don't put a childs hat (bonnet) over our car engines either. Just kidding...

Agree thou that it doesn't make technical sense in this case, as you are not eliminating the battery. But for high voltage electrics where they are also used it does make sense.

i bought a 6 volt regulator from Align, rated at 5 amps for my truggy and it even has a battery meter built in so i don't over discharge and kill my lipos. align originally designed it for nitro helis and planes but it works just fine.
