A Question about Electric Off-Road Vehicles............Which to get?

the speed difference and handling characteristics were that drastic between the brushless and non-brushless version? i mean i know the speed is greatly increased but was it significant enough to make you pay the extra 100 bux? couldn't i put that money into better upgrades or even another brushless motor of my choice?

no, because its hard to find another brushless ESC/motor for less than $100. i would suggest go for it and be amazed

if you think you have too much speed you can set it on the training mode. a bonus you get from brushless is that there is little maintenance. brushed motors you have to cut the comm and brushes about every 6 runs.Brushless= expenive now but worth your money later.brushed=less money now but get more money spent later

oh and the vxl is a little moded up compared the xl-5.

well if i'm going to expand the options to brushless rtr's, any others that compare to the rustler brushless? or stampede brushless?

was just thinking about one of the responses above and would someone care to go into a bit more depth as to the maintenance of a normal/regular brushed motor. I wasn't aware that you had to "cut the com" and something or another with a brushed motor after 6 runs or so. Is this truly necessary to keep the motor in good shape? I really don't know much about the maintenance of these things since i truly am a noob. Perhaps you can give me a quick run down in specific as to how to care for the motor. I was just under the assumption that you have to give the motor a break after a few hard runs lol.

ok, so after reading a little bit and searching through some threads, i stumbled upon the answer to my last post. twas found here:

Now that i know that the maintenance of a regular motor can be a bit tedious, the only question that thread can't answer is the cost.............what is the cost of getting maintenance work done on the motor? do you do it yourself normally? what does your local hobby shop charge for it? Pending on the price, i might really have to go the brushless route................

to do the work you have to buy a comm lathe, and thats a sizeable investment (not sure on the cost though)

you could go brushless system and be done with maintenance...
have you checked out the new e-maxx??? plug-in a BL system on it

what do u mean by plug in a BL system onto the emaxx? would that be the better route than say just getting the rustler vxl?

Plus a Losi is twice the truck of the Rustler. I know its a little more but it IS WELL WORTH IT.
