1/10 13.5 Motor Comparison(s)?

Hey all,
I'm fairly new to the 1/10 scale racing scene and wanted to ask about motors. I am moving up from 21.5 2wd to 17.5 and 17.5 wheeler to 13.5. I came from FPV racing where motor data is readily available and its easy to understand what makes certain motors perform.
I have had a difficult time finding what motors are new / the performance comparisons between them. I understand the scope of the better driver will always win, but when spending $100+ on a motor I'd rather buy the best.
If anyone knows anything on the subject or if all spec motors are to close for it to really matter - I would greatly appreciate it. Recommendations welcomed as well! Thank you!

You say you're new to 1/10 racing. Have you done any other type of racing? If your just starting our, in my opinion, you might want to get a $75-$100 from the top brands. After you get good enough to fully handle the speed, basically where you get around the track without losing control, then you can start looking at the custom tuned motors. I don't have a custom tuned motor, but I'm not quite able to make it around a track more than a half dozen times without losing control at least once. I blame it on the age thing.

By new I mean about 3 months in. I currently consistently TQ and win or place top 2 in 21.5 2wd and 17.5 stock wheeler.
I'm by no means a fantastic driver, but I've definitely learned to control my cars well. Last night my TQ in 21.5 had a 97% consistency with 2 minor mistakes throughout the 5 min heat.
I'm not seeking some wild custom motor that was binned - Mostly trying to get the most bang for my buck. If Im going to spend 80-120$ I may as well get the best product I can get my hands on.

It is very expensive. I would waive at the guys, with the $150+ motors, as they pass me. It's not worth it to me. I'm in it for fun. Sometimes I get irritated, but they I take a minute to remind myself that's it's just a hobby and not a career. Just remember, they only won due to the motor being faster. At the end of the day, I'm not getting paid for this and I got the thrill I needed. $150 is a lot of money. Especially after almost $15 every few races on tires, entrance fees, snack fees, gas to get there fees, snack fees, bribing the wife fee, etc... oh, did I mention snack fees? Come to think of it, I got rid of my boat because I kept having to dump money in it. u-oh!

I've dynoed a bunch of 17.5 motors from a bunch of brands. The ones from companies that cater to racers like Fantom, Trinity, R1, Motiv, all perform similarly of the same generation. Maybe some differences in the power band, but not much in peak power. Adjusting for these differences in power band can be done with gearing. I only had one 17.5 Tekin. It didn't test well, because I found out it had a bad rotor.
I wouldn't overthink it.

Is there a more popular brand around your track? I致e not looked to close at the top guy where I知 at. Think there choices are made off sponsorship

Thanks! At our track I've noticed a wide range. I see mainly, tekin, trinity, fantom. I'm sure many are based on sponsorship but it seems like they run a variety. Most run a b6.2 and a handful of really fast guys run 5.0 elites.
