help with electrics!

Hi guys, this issue is driving me insane.

Last week i was racing, came to a stop and the car wouldnt move unless i pushed it to get it going.

First thought was sensor wire.

Changed that, still the same.

Tried 3 different motors, still the same.

Decided it was the speedo which was a hobbywing 2.1 120a, so i ordered a new one, and guess what, still the same!.

What the hell can it be?

Ive re bound the transmitter to the reciever
re calibrated the neutral, full and reverse on the speedo
Factory reset transmitter
Latest firmware on ESC.

Im stumped, surely the reciever wouldnt cause this? Gear is a spectrum dx3c

Basically the issue is the motor runs perfectly fine, but it needs a nudge to get going.

Any ideas?

You said Spectrum so i wouldn't rule it out.

That does sound strange...Does the car roll freely?

Try a taller gear.

Nah the drivedrain is fine.

It does it even if I take the pinion off.

It will go if I blip reverse a few times and then floor it.

Sounds like the receiver. I had a spectrum receiver do this to me. I just replaced it.

Battery voltage when this happens?

This happened to my 12th scale car. The battery booster broke and I wasn't getting enough voltage to the receiver.

hipwell 04-29-2017 03:24 PM

Batteries full. Only other option is receiver and trans

dfiantii 04-29-2017 05:05 PM

Replace the receiver. Thats the only thing still the same in the car

SpeedySST 04-29-2017 05:38 PM

When you bind the receiver to the transmitter, do it from a little bit of a distance. For some reason that helped with my car.

Well, replaced the receiver, still the same!!

Surely it can only be the transmitter now.

What's the chances of a second Speedo having an identical fault?

check your solder joints....

ESC set for wrong mode???

So basically, what you're saying is, that the motor is cogging. You've already tried a new sensor wire. Now try removing the sensor wire altogether & see what happens.
Sounds like you're running the ESC in the wrong mode. Meaning that, you've either got a sensored motor running in sensorless configuration OR the other way around.

Hobbywing 2.1s can't be changed mode. I think the only way to change into sensorless is the remove the cable. But then it still coggs

I'll resolder all joints tonight and try again

Also make sure there are no wire strands/solder touching from one terminal to another. (A,B,C)

Can you swap two of the motor leads so that the car goes in reverse when the trigger is pulled on a sensored setup? If so, swap a pair of wires. If the problem still happens when you pull the trigger, probably transmitter, I'd think. If problem follows car direction then it's something else.

Then again, if you've tried different batteries, three different motors, two different esc's, and two receivers, there's pretty much only the transmitter left in the equation.

Well, update on this.

Tried new transmitter, still the same.

In the process of testing everything I managed to pop 2 receivers. So i swapped out the Savox servo in the car for an old one as I was worried the servo could have damaged the esc and the receiver

3rd esc and new receiver fitted, all sorted.

So basically I think the savox servo had a fault that immediately damaged something inside the original esc and the new esc as soon as it was hooked up

SpeedySST 05-06-2017 02:34 PM

Thanks for the update! Nice when people do that so that others can maybe use it as a way to check if they have the same problem.

Haadkoe 05-06-2017 07:35 PM

Glad you were able to figure it out! Sorry so many pieces of equipment had to die in the process though.

I've never owned a Savox servo but have heard more bad things about them than good, overall.

This situation reinforces that.

that bites messing up all that electronics
