did you guys get these problems worked out or give up on the esc's?

I've come to the conclusion that it just has less drag brake than other ESCs. Adjust to that reality and race it

Anyone use this in touring car? Picked up two for my 17.5 TC and Mod TC, if anyone has info on what settings to use can you please pm me.

Also picked up the 1s version for 13.5 1/12 if anyone has the setting to use that would be very helpful!

Is there a way to get the wire from the esc to the reciever/ program box, I had a wire break at the little white connector and am unable to repair it
I am ok with just finding the white small connector with wires attached to it as well.

I wonder if that small white connector on the SMC wire is common with the other manufacturers? Take the following for example:

Anyone having an issue with the 2s 170 Esc the power light blinks to indicate blink mode. But if I watch it it flickers. It’s not a steady blink.

I had one do this and also noticed that the brakes would lock up while on the car stand if I rotated the tires slowly by hand.

Sent it in and it was replaced.

Got a new one and installed it and noticed that it too is flickering.

I have tried:

2 different Rx
New sensor wire
Different motor
New, never used model set up on the radio

I’ve recalibrated it numerous times

Still flickers.

Anyone else notice this?

No.. but I haven't looked too closely. I'll check next time I run the car.

Anyone race with this esc and 13.5 motor in 4WD buggy. I'm going to install this into my EB410, and wanted to konw if anyone used this for racing.

I am. Not a first rate driver by any means, but I've not had any complaints with this combination. With all motors ya gotta find the right combination of gear and timing for your track and driving style.

I, too, have an EB410 and have it geared 28/81 with about 42 degrees of timing on the end bell of the motor. Temp is about 110 at the end of a heat.

Got a GForce Motor Analyzer for x-mas and will be hooking it up later today.

Finished up with the Analyzer.

Surprised to find I was drawing only around 4.0 amps at 42 degrees. Didn't record KV at 42, but I did get it at 40 and 45 and 50 degrees on the end bell.

Degrees (can) -- Degrees (analyzer) -- KV -- Amp Draw

40 -- 37 -- 3191 -- 3.4
45 -- 41 -- 3368 -- 4.6
50 -- 46 -- 3877 -- 8.8

Huge jump in both KV and Amps from 45 to 50 degrees. 47 degrees put me at 6 amps and 3530 kv. We'll see how that works next time on track.

If anyone has any wisdom on whether or not 6 amps is appropriate for this motor speak up.

Was a conclusion ever reached on this issue? I've noted the same behaviour on my RF-170.

I have one doing this as well. anybody know how to fix?

This pertains to the issue of no drag brake in forward , but works in reverse.
ABC is hooked up correct. Running sensored only. Works great just no drag brake in forward.

So I had some time to think about this and I left out some info that might be helpful.

Radio is a Spektrum DX4C.
Receiver is a Spektrum SR410

The ESC SMC RF-170 is in a T5M with 3 gear trans hooked up to a Tekin Gen3 17.5, running sensored with boost and turbo. Runs great except no drag brake in forward. Brakes will lock up at 100%. I run reverse at 50% and drag brake works in reverse.

Calibrated it several times. Tried reversing radio, wouldn't calibrate then.

Any ideas would be appreciated.

How much drag brake u guys suggest running? What’s the fix for the weak drag brakes?
