LIHV batteries.

Could somebody explain, please:
Since IFMAR just allowed using LIHV but with charged until 8.4V.
If LIHV still is overwhelming LIPO, just same or even worse.

Best regards

They just require a voltage of 8.4v. Lihv batteries are no more dangerous than regular Lipos either. Not too sure what you're asking.

I mean, if LIHV has any advantage in the performance since charge the same voltage as LIPO.
I even saw TRION and Muchmore has released also LIHV batteries.

I have the Protek 8500mAh 100c batteries and I can't really notice any additional power from .2VDC on my 4wd SCT. Now, Before I struggle to get 10 minute runs and last time at the track I can easily run 14 minutes with it charged at 8.60. Note that if you charge at 8.4 not just the voltage but the capacity goes down as well. i.e. mines are 8500mAh @ 8.60V but they are 7600mAh @ 8.4V.

P.S. The tracks I run. no one cares about LiHv batteries and even people run 3s on their trucks. I still lap them on 2s tho. 3S SCT is not faster but longer run time which I now can achieve with my LiHv batteries.

In fact this is what i am looking to ensure.
From 8.6 down to 8.4 would really affect battery capacity and car run.

Thanks!

I'm assuming you mean not faster around the track because they can't control the power. 3S in the same KV/turn motor will be way faster than 2S unless you get a lower KV motor to give similar RPM.

I honestly cant tell the difference. I have a icharger 406duo and it shows ir readings.. the fantom shorty I have is like 5 milliohms at 8.4 and the reedy zapper is 2.8 milliohms when charged to 8.7. On the track in my 13.5 b6 the power feels the same.. Having said that I will keep buying lihv just because of the lower ir readings.

It would interesting to see someone do a back to back track test with a standard lipo vs a HV lipo.Or even a discharge voltage test. If anyone knows of this being done point me to the thread.

cant or not supposed to run 3s on anything over 4000Kv which is what most 2s racers use. Any motor rated for 3s is below 4000Kv. I do get what you are saying and is true... Straight line speed is faster but I have raced with a few ppl running 3s and they are fast but not "I cant keep up" fast. BTW, I run the 550 4300Kv HW motor paired to a XR8 SCT pro esc on my SCTE 2.5 geared 15/40.

I have done a few tests both with 1s and 2s batteries, I was very disappointed with the hv lipo.
The hvac liposuction only showed more voltage for the first 15 seconds, then the voltage stayed the same as the regular lipo.

If charging to 8.4V, won't be much of a difference, even under high amp charging.

What will make a bigger difference is the IR of the battery, regardless whether it is LiHV or not. I had a LiHV that performed worse than my regular packs, because the IR was higher.

Quality of cells > LiHV

My time sheets show that I literally hit 9.89 on the current layout with both batteries. My times vary bye less then .09 on the computer. I do not have a thread going but this is betweena fantom standard shorty to a reedy zapper lihv .
