Hakko FX888D is at the top of your budget.

Edit: Jeff beat me to it.

+1 on the above Hakko. One of the best purchases I ever made. I got mine for $92.00.

The FX888D maybe the best choice, but if you are a TH SS member the TK955 is on special $105-$16=$89. http://www3.towerhobbies.com/cgi-bin...?&I=L32550&P=1
I have the TK955, & it works well, but is not perfect.
Edit: Showing ss discount.

Do a search on Amazon. I just saw it for $96.72 with free shipping. This may be better than the above thread. Look at the Tower Hoppies and compare.

Make sure the get one of the larger chisel tips to go with the Hakko FX888-D if you get it. I went with the 3.2mm chisel (T18-D32) as well as a pencil tip. For most RC uses you'll want to be able retain a bit more heat in the tip. This goes for any iron too- having the right tip will help a lot with soldering wires on to terminals.

The Hakko has only two buttons and is not particularly intuitive to adjust the temperature settings or switch presets. It also has a mode that can be used to recalibrate the temperature to display a different number- careful not to accidentally adjust this. The best thing is that it heats up from cold in about 30 seconds. The wire/steel wool tip cleaner in the stand is also great.

I use the trakpower. Works good. Gets plenty hot and heats up quick. I use it a decent amount. Had it about a year. So far so good.

If your budget is $100, the FX888D is awesome. I picked one up from a member here and love it.

These work well. Not adjustable but will get the job done, I use Hakko BTW.

+infinity on the Hakko. You just can't do better... Take into consideration the tips that are available as well. Some of these stations I see on hobby websites are a "you get what it comes with" type deal. That's terrible.

Seriously - go with the Hakko and don't look back.

this is a Hako knock off but they work great. and you can't beat the price.
