KO Propo servos, does anybody like them?
#1
I splurged last week and bought 2 KO Propo servos for my Mugen MBX5 Prospec: RSx2 30108 for T/B & BSx2 30203 for steering but the 30203 doesn't work - at all.
Dead right out of the box.
1st time I ever got a servo like that and now I have to call Amain in the morning. Hoping this isn't too much of a hassle. I really wanted to run this car this weekend with these new servos.
Does KO Pro have generally good quality or are they just over priced and over-rated?

I've had around 6 (Power and Response)of them they have pretty much held up pretty well and are probably the toughest servos I've had, especialy the Power ones.
I guess with any brand there are certain amount of lemons out of the box. I personally got 3 Futbaba S9373SV's from Japan and all 3 of them were unusable right out of the box.

Ya I just got a Futaba I'm not really impressed with too. It's twitching like crazy. It's more of a $139 vibrator.

Same with my futaba, mine twitch like crazy always sound they the have load on them and get hot. Pro teks seem ok, my only concern is that one of mine gets pretty warm so i still have to give it some time to see if they hold up.

My DNX8 that I have this Futaba in isn't finished yet so I havn't seen if it gets hot but this Futaba I have on its T/B and I've been working with throttle return springs to get the load off it. It's fine as long as it's not pushing on that little spring on the linkage but noisy as hell without the t return spring. Maybe I shouldn't use the Futaba for T/B.
I have the same Futaba on the steering of one of my MBX6Rs and it's been good.
Proteks are awesome servos. By far the best for the money I think. Proteks are what I'm replacing with these KO Pros so I can use the Proteks in an RC8 I'm still building.

Also... we got to keep in mind.. There's a few fake futaba servos.. so always make sure your buying genuine futaba servos.

Ko servo can't go wrong.
Though its a bit pricey..... but worth every dollar.
Had mine..... 3 yrs old but still working.... amazing.
Once a while I do stripped it down for maintainance. Regrease all gears.....

Wow, such positive feedback.
I found what was wrong.
The KO BSx2 series servos don't get along well with Futaba telemetry radios. That servo goes into programming mode as soon as it powers on to a Futaba rx. The RSx2 servos don't have this problem which is why that one worked.
To use the BSx2 with Futaba, first turn it on, then unplug the servo from the rx and plug it back in while still powered on and it works!
I said forget that. I ain't doing that every time so I tried it with one of my Airtronics MT-4s and it works perfectly but I had to use a modified ext cable (Futaba female/JR male) because the KO servo has the Futaba style plug. Imagine that, has the plug to a radio it's incompatible with but I'm sure KO transmitters use that plug too.
So I could use this servo in one of my other cars that I'm running Airtronics in but I have to use that ext cable which I don't want to do or trim that tab off the plug to fit the JR style hole. The guy at KO America said it wouldn't void the warranty. At least I have an email chain in case somebody over there changes their mind about that.
My 3rd option is to return it but with all this glorious feedback, I might keep it.

I have ran the rsx line since it was realeasee late 2010. For 6 years I did not have a gailure. They do need new gears every year or so as they wil loose center. I have been running the genuine Futaba 9353 and then switched to 9373 servos for about a year 1/2 I have had 1 fail but they are the fastest with the highest TQ on the market. I would say either of these 2 you can't go wrong with.
