Default Mid-level racer need help deciding

Guys,

Just purchased a slash to race at my local track and would like to pick-up a decent transmitter. I have decided on two Futaba 3PV or Spektrum DX4C. They seem to be evenly match but would there be something that makes one better? I have used Spektrum in my past racing would I be better off staying with that brand?

Thanks for any help!

I run futaba, I've had the same controller for 9yrs and never had an issue. In that time I've seen many people at the track have issues with there spectrum controller's that where much newer than mine. I also like the weight of the futaba controller's, the spectrum is to light and feels cheap in my hand.

There seems to be a bad stigma about spektrum radios compared to other brands. If it were up to me I Would stick to Futaba or airtronics, but the new spektrum radios are objectively probably just as good. You would likely be happy with either of them.

I would recommend the Airtronics MX-V radio system. I've been using one for a year and it has been flawless.

I recently picked up the new Futaba 3PV and my initial impression is that it feels cheap to hold and fits smaller hands. Almost feels toy-like to me and will have more feedback once I use it later this year.

Airtronics is awesome, I agree. But the receivers are WAY too expensive. I just got a deal on a Futaba 4PLS, and I love it as much as my previous airtronics MT4. The cool part is, I can run $30 receivers instead of $55-60 units.

Keep in mind that everyone has different tastes, so the main thing is to get a feel for the ones you're interested in, & go with the one that feels best to YOU, that's by far the most important factor. That being said, I've really taken a liking to my Futabas(an original 4PL & now the 4PLS) after being a hardcore KO Propo guy for over 20 years(kinda had to try a Futaba a few years ago, when my last KO died at an event, so to finish the event I had to buy something, & the shop didn't have any KO stuff in stock, but they had a 4PL ready to go)....

I decided on the DX4c. My LHS had both 3PV and DX4c, the 3pv I'm sure is a nice unit but I could not get past the light weight feel. As well it did not seem like it could take a fall or hold up. The DX4c felt best to me, I also have had more experience with spektrum products. Thanks for the help guys!

I have both. I like the easy of the screens on spectrum.ran spec for years. Now I have the 3pv and race onroad and have gained 1-2 laps using 3pv.in tc stock. Not sure why. But will keep using 3pv and think about 4pv.

I have to admit, I was very tempted by the 3PV myself, when my old 4PL was wearing out(nasty dead spots developed in both throttle & steering potentiometers), but the one thing that turned me off from it was the lack of tension control for the trigger & wheel. That's something that's VERY useful in making any given radio feel right to the individual. However, I'm still wondering if the 4PV might have those(& if it does, that might be my next radio)....
