On my Sony phone and tablet i have to manually detect for usb devices then it sees the hotwire and opens the app, maybe Samsung is the same, hook everything up, no battery, go to settings -> device connection -> usb connectivity -> detect usb device.

One last question....I just noticed my cable is not an "OTG" cable. Perhaps that is the issue?
I just ordered one, so we will see |
UPDATE: It was the OTG cable. As soon I plugged in the proper cable everything worked fine.
