Default Odd Braking Issue

So I'm having an issue that's completely new to me.

Running a brushless converted 1/5 scale with a Leopard BL-5 and an Hobbystar 56112 780KV motor. I have the motor brakes disabled in the ESC as I'm running the mechanical brakes.

The issue I'm having is that out of the blue the motor brakes will engage on their own, which brings up a delay in throttle response. Being as the motor brakes are disabled this makes no sense.

I've tried a different RX which I know is a working RX from my Tekno ET48.3. I've tried calibrating the ESC throttle range multiple times. I've tried running without the LED's I have installed to eliminate that possible interference, and I've tried different pairs of batteries.

Any other ideas fellas? Motor and ESC possibly clashing, bad ESC, interference from something else? I'm running a splitter going to the brake servo and esc. I'm going to run the ESC straight to the RX to eliminate the splitter and see if that helps. Possible the ESC needs a firmware update? If so, do the Leopard BL-5 ESC's take the same firmware files as the HW Max5?

Any help here is greatly appreciated. I'm at a loss on this one.
