Unhappy LiPo Batter is dead :(

So after a run with my truck. I noticed something smelled funny, Pulled out the LiPo and there was a liquid all over the battery tray, I noticed the same thing on the battery. I smelled it and it smelled like that "sweet smell" everyone talks about when their battery is punctured and begins to leak. I have deemed this a dead LiPo So here is my question. After discharging and doing the salt water treatment. Do i chuck the battery in the garbage bin? Or how do I dispose of it?

Do not throw the battery away. Locate a battery recycle center and bring it there. Thanks for being responsible.

Agree with this, most Best Buy or other large electronics retailers have battery disposal containers located in their entry ways. Also if you have a Batrery & Bulb chain store by you they will take them for recycling as well.

Also I've heard when doing the salt water treatment, That you should cut the wires? You don't have to do this right? Ive already put it in the water and don't see why I would need to cut them to discharge it.

What is there to recycle? The gel can't be re-used. I was told by a battery dealer to drain them dead, soak in salt solution for 10-14 days and dispose of in the trash.

There are toxic chemicals in batteries. You cant just throw them in the trash. Same reason why you wouldnt just throw a container of old motor oil in the trash ....

Lithium ion batteries contain no toxic metals, and can be tossed in the trash after being completely discharged in salt water.

Just hook it up to a 12v car tail light bulb and let it discharge to 0 volts. Saltwater takes a long time and may not work if the battery terminals corrode before reaching 0 volts.

Here is a good site the airplane guys use with lots of lipo information.
